You should just lead with that when defending him, it’s a better look

And we can go there. I notice the fan boys scatter in the previous threads we’ve done this in

Lofty post, mate.

Carr played like a top 10 QB the last six weeks of the season.

Many of us were too hard on him.

Did Carr go to any parades? I saw where he was a good sport about the float but don't recall any photos or mention of him at a parade.

He is a pro ball player making millions.
And he isn’t salty or being a bitch about it.
That’s refreshing.
Likely using it for fuel for next year and I hope he can make us all eat crow.

He probably won’t tho

Didn't see Carr at any but saw lots of photos and videos of Jameis going out and having a good time at Mardi Gras.

Not saying Jameis is better or anything, just wish Carr would have taken in some part of Mardi Gras other than a tweet responding to a float of himself. It would have shown that he's bought into the city and could have gone a long way in winning back some fan support.

Yeah, winning is most important, but showing love to the city wins a lot of points, too, especially after a season where a lot of fans view Carr's performance as underwhelming.

Zero Raiders fans were upset when he get benched at the end of 2022.

There’s a reason why.

He’s a turnover machine in big games.

Fact of the matter is if you think Carr is going to get the Saints anywhere near a Super Bowl or even a divisional playoff game then your delusion levels are through the roof

I think a couple of things outside of his control played into the fanbase being tough on him.

1. The division being so bad on paper. We all thought once we signed him it was an easy win. Bucs and Falcons (at times) both played way better than expected prior to the season.

2. Making more than Drew Brees per season. Most saw the big number of 4 years/150 mil and just assumed we were paying Carr some insane number when he is not even in the top 10 QB salaries across the league.

Next year mate, see you in Kansas City?

31 other teams were uninterested in Carr, so how can you justify paying him as the #14 overall player in the league? Even if he was worth $38 million per year (which he isnt), why pay that kind of money when you aren't ready to win now? Patrick Mahomes would have trouble winning playoff games with this team. Its just a complete waste. Just admit that you're ok with mediocrity. We paid for an average, mediocre, low ceiling player, and thats what we got. On top of that we are stuck with him for the foreseeable future.

find it typically juvenile of certain New Orleans Saints fans whose Saints fan history begins around 2006.

I mean, this was 18 years ago

That said I agree with everything you said. This float is a disgrace.

well this is wrong right off the bat:

quote:

Quarterback Derek Carr is traveling to Indianapolis on Tuesday and has meetings scheduled with the Saints, Jets and Panthers, league sources confirmed to The Athletic. NFL Network first reported the news.

so you already look like the dumbass that you are. let's move along

The Bucs, whose win streak we ended on their field with a chance to win the division, were one play away from the NFC Championship. Most teams in the NFL believe they can win now if they stay healthy and the stars align.

this is just dumb

Jets got rodgers for same ammount of money, panthers were always going to draft young. Thats not legitimate interest and doesn't warrant what we paid him. Next.

Solid point. Hard for me to rebuttal

No more tantrums for me. I've accepted reality. You're still in the denial stage

Carr is a super duper born again Christian to the point where I'd guess he doesn't support Mardi Gras.

Because we're a small market team with an uninspiring HC that had enough roster talent to compete for nFC South titles the next 2-3 years.

In hindsight we sign Baker instead, but that would have resulted in giving Baker the exact same contract starting this season.

What does this have to do with anything

The "we would've had to pay baker eventually" argument is stupid.. Why do we have to normalize overpaying average qbs. Why not keep streaming these bums for 5-10 million, while you search for a franchise guy in the draft. If baker demands more than $15 million/year you tell him to pound sand. Its not impossible to hit on a 'jalen hurts' in the 2nd round, or a Brock Purdy. Nick Foles won a superbowl. The chiefs are in the position they are in because they streamed Alex Smith and targeted mahomes in the draft, gave him a year to sit behind smith.
"Lets pay 10 year veteran loser Carr like a top 15 franchise guy because thats what everyone else is doing"

Which means the team would have had an extra $5.5M in cap space in 2023 that could be rolled into 2024. Which means that 2024 cap burden that Mickey needs to clear up would drop from $83.7M to 42.5M.

Also, Baker most likely struggles in this offense and they are either signing him on another affordable deal, or finding the next vet looking for a spot to land for 1-2 years.

But assume he does well and he gets "the exact same contract" as Carr; Loomis would have a much easier time to move around enough players contracts to get Baker for a $7.2M 2024 cap hit (Carr's 2023 cap hit) when he's starting at -42.5M.

I am sure I am in the minority with this view, but I actually prefer him to be home with his family in Vegas getting some quality family time and rehabbing/resting from the beating he took this season.

I think that's a pretty fair answer I could totally understand that if that was the case.
