How does a player deserve a garbage TD because he didn't actually score one all year? How is that "deserved" or "earned"?

Quite a few years ago, I remember a story about a high school football player with Down's Syndrome. His team mates thought it would be cool to help him score a touchdown in a live game.

In a meaningless game they got the other team to agree to let this kid score a TD. It was a cool feel good moment to see him run for a score with his team mates escorting him to the end zone while the players on the other team feigned being faked out.

Down's Syndrome Kid scores a touchdown

The kid was actually a waterboy for the team.

What these kids did showed profound sportsmanship. What the Saints players did, was the opposite of sportsmanship and made their organization look bad.

I will just say this. He is a teammate and he is there to carry the ball all year long.

It isn't his call to give Kamara or Hill inside runs from the 5 yard line or Carr throws when we should run the ball and take off another 40 seconds.

That wasn't about Williams.

It was about the players flexing their muscles and showing that they call the shots.

Here's starting center Erik McCoy with your answer:

They didn't run a play. They stole a TD by lining up in victory.

What's the value in that?

This was a TD run out of the victory formation. To me, that’s unsportsmanlike. When you look like you’re going to take a knee and the defense concedes the time to you… you’re not supposed to pull stupid shite like this. frick the Falcons… but that’s pretty bush league.
There should be a penalty for that shyt. It’s dangerous. Defensive linemen can get their damned knees obliterated on an unexpected low bull rush from olinemen.

This stupid shite comes from the Falcons management after having months to reconsider it’s message.

Also, on the Gleason blocked punt statue- the Saints requested permission from the Falcons to use the ATL logos on it and the request was denied.

frick their feelings.

We are going to see defensive linemen firing off the ball for a while moving forward when in victory formation for good reason.

No we aren't. The same way if the Saints lose to the Falcons next year it won't be because they were super duper extra motivated because the Saints scored a garbage time TD that the Falcons players on the field didn't even react to.

dunno, but I hope Dennis Allen and Mickey Loomis go on a trade frenzy to prove a point here. You can't let the team go rogue.

I hope they do too as they deserved better than Dennis. Get them with some real coaches

You dont have to worry about them being traded to "prove" a point as im sure they'll be plenty of guys asking out

This is why it was stupid for Arthur Smith to lash out the way he did. It was so obviously not our coaching staff who called that.

Miller was so Electric missing Fricking like 12 games this season

I am so proud and glad that’s he was fresh for a meaningless week 18 game when the rest of the roster was tired and battered.

And while he was outperformed by damn near every single rookie rb in his class all season as well.

In reality, it wasn’t even “earned”. Defense was not geared to stop the Victory Formation. If I were Williams I would have told my teammates “pass”. It’s a hollow touchdown. He had plenty of chances during the season to punch one in.

It's a team sports thing. If his teammates say he deserved that TD I'll agree with them.

I feel like some of you take this stuff way too serious.

Exactly this.

Victory formation is a gentlemen's agreement between people of supposed integrity.

It's accepted that you don't try and hurt anyone or pull any shenannigans.

This shitty team full of classless thugz violated that agreement.

F$&k this. I’m cool with teams running PA passes out of victory formation. Why do people give a crap about professionals playing a game running up the score? People are acting like the victory formation is some hollowed ground like the former Arby’s a few blocks from the Twin Towers.
