I know the Saints said they wanted him back and he said that we would love to be back. Is it just assumed he is going to sign with us this season?

I wouldn't say assumed, but I think we have the highest probability of signing him (if we want him). He chose to sign here last year for league minimum, & another team offered him a pretty damn good contract that he declined.

He wants a ring & our locker room seemed to be very welcoming to him.

Meredith can play slot?

I always thought of him as more of an outside guy, but reports were he is comfortable in the slot also.

Then we are pretty set at the WR position i'd say. Not saying we won't draft someone but its certainly not a huge need at this point.

I don’t know how they are doing it but the Saints supposedly have about $19 million in cap space right now which is more than enough to get the Cook deal done plus sign their draft class and still add someone like Quinn or Ansah if they wanted to. I don’t see any more pay cuts or restructures being necessary.

Excellent. Saints had all the leverage here, and he was wise enough to know he'd be cut if he didn't restructure. This is a "prove it" year for him, in terms of continuing his career.

This is very good sign.
Says he still has a desire to play for us.

Think they were going 5o ask him to take a pay cut an6way.

Pretty sure most of his guaranteed money was in the first year anyway.
I just hope it was the injury and not something else that made him look so lost.

He killed it in the slot that 1 year in Chicago. If he can just be 75% of that guy this offense will be unstoppable.
Cook and kamara will work the middle of the field too, so he should have a pretty easy time operating in there.
Single coverage all year for him

Ultimately that money just went to Easton though

Not year one. Iirc Unger was set to cost around $9.5 mil, and his dead money hit is $1.75 mil. So we saved around $8 mil on the cap.

Easton will be on the cap for about $2 mil this year if I had to guess. That leaves about another $6 mil open.

The $1.75 mil still on the cap was from the signing bonus iirc.

That's money we paid him years ago so we owe it on the cap (signing bonus gets spread a max of 5 years).

I realize though my post may make it sound like we are on the hook for $9.5 mil, which we aren't. Only the $1.75 mil.
