the more that time passes the more I'm less excited about Butler. 3rd Rder sounds good but higher gets much tougher for me.
Re-sign Moore and add another like Claiborne or other vet
How many snaps did we even see Breaux and Williams on the field together? Not many

NE doesn't play a lot of zone. He's a good man corner, but it's still NE and their defensive scheme. I don't think Matt Patricia is really a good DC but his defenses sure do look as good as NE defenses have looked since 2000.

He played mostly man to man coverage. That's his strength as a player. Dude never quits on a route and can keep direction with some of the best WRs in the league

Reddit is pretty hilarious right now.

reddit is still 100% foreign to me.

We tendered Chris Ivory as a 2nd rounder and traded him for a 4th. It's possible.

Of course it is. It happens all of the time. What is extremely rare is a team actually signing the offer sheet and giving up the pick tendered at.

If he plays one year on the tender with the patriots and then leaves, they will get a 3rd round compensatory pick. So I doubt they are trading Butler for a 3rd.

We will not find a CB as NFL-ready as Butler in the 3rd round, let alone the 2nd or 1st. This is a proven commodity.

I'm down with bringing Moore back. Doesn't impact the move to get Butler.

Yeah there is a reason for this. Neither can stay on the field. Williams can't even get on the field.

That isn't necessarily the case and wouldn't be until 2019, to my knowledge.

Not a guarantee, comp picks are about players in vs players out

It's more complicated than that, yet it keeps getting repeated for some reason

I mean, we can put the word "likely" in there. But it's the patriots. They would make sure they get that 3rd round pick.

quote:Again, it would be 2 years from now! That would approximately be the equivalent to approximately a 5th rounder this year. Typically picks lose about a one round value the next year as a rule of thumb.

if he sits out the year, he misses out on more money than hes made in his entire NFL career, and doesnt accrue a season in the NFL which tumbles him right back into restricted free agency
He won't do it, but he can return around week 10 (sacrificing 10/17ths of his ~$3.5m salary) and get a year accrued.
Also, the Pats can sign Butler to the extension and trade him. They just need to use a guaranteed roster bonus in lieu of a typical signing bonus. They could set it up to kick in days later, trade Butler to the Saints, then the Saints would be responsible for it. It could then be prorated throughout the contract.

Wtf. Rex Burkhead signs with the Patriots.
Posted on 3/14/17 at 3:49 pm to GMoney2600
Holy crap, I can't think of a better fit for them. He is absolutely perfect.
I really wanted him for us.

I assume CSP has his eyes on a RB in the top 3 rounds.

quote:Good signing. Could be one of those under the radar signings like when they signed Hogan.
