I believe their 2024 draft is untouched.. They don't have a 1st and 2nd in 2023..

It is no secret that former Saints head coach Sean Payton has been eyeing a return to the sideline following a year off from coaching. Now, he appears to be lining up a coaching staff. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Payton would like an “all-star staff” at his next spot, which would include Vic Fangio as his defensive coordinator.

Well that all but ends any chance Sean comes back. The Broncos are owned by the Walton family so they have some of the deepest pockets on earth and they have a top notch defense. This seems like a perfect marriage for Sean. They need an offensive coach and I bet he thinks he can turn Russel Wilson around. The Broncos fired their first year head coach without thought because he didn’t produce results, Gayle and Mickey would be wise to follow their lead. Take the #26 pick from them this year and a 2024 2nd round pick if they want Payton.

Payton wants Vic Fangio to be his DC. Fangio was HC & fired back in 2021 by the Broncos.

I doubt that would stop him if they offered him the money he’s looking for. They have a good defense with good WR and a QB that at least used to be good. I think he’d be intrigued by that job and just find another DC. The real question would be the front office dynamic. It’s also close to his Idaho home.

You really believe that Payton would take the time to reach out to coaches to put together a ghost staff in case an opening came about only to tell the DC he chose, hey don't worry about it? Fangio isn't just any DC either. He's one of the best in the business.

They gave away 5 picks and 3 players for Russ. We should be able to get 2 1st’s and an extra pick. For Sean

I could definitely see a 1st and 3rd this year and a 2nd next year getting it done. Loomis could do a little better, who knows.

Broncos are an excellent organization.

Look at Payton's moves over the last few years of his tenure with the Saints. Defensive heavy drafts which resulted in a shift in philosophy. The team went from being a team that tried to out score everyone, to one that leaned on their defense.

It seems reality set in for Payton. He realized he wasted too many seasons losing in the playoffs with subpar defenses. He's not going to make the same mistake again. Fangio is a great defensive coach & the Payton/Fangio combo would be difficult to beat week in & week out.

Stop going with what you think will happen & focus on the actions of the last few seasons. It's also part of the business where Payton can just look elsewhere to coach so that he can bring along everyone he chose for his hand picked staff.
