Brick wall sometimes.

BUT, injuries would explain a lot, and I'm super stoked if we're getting something close to '11 Drew this year.

We just have to ride out Ryan one more year before Allen takes over.

Why not just hope that Ryan is successful this year? Too fat for you?

With Cooks speed, he just had to chuck it up.

This has got to be one of the dumbest things I have ever read, and I used to help fellow football players pass English 101.

"I had the injury in the preseason, the oblique. Then I had something during the season, too, that I was battling," said Brees, who declined to get more specific.

Brees said you "throw with your core" as a quarterback, explaining that the idea of having a "strong arm" actually has very little to do with the arm. And he said he tried to "manufacture power" after suffering the oblique injury.

"I would overcompensate in other ways and develop bad habits, which worked for a short period of time. Then, all of a sudden, other things started going downhill," Brees said.
"So I was definitely in that place toward the end of last season. I wasn't throwing my best. But no excuses. Everybody's battling stuff throughout the season. But this offseason, I definitely went back to the basics with some of those things to make sure I was doing stuff the right way."

It sounds like his oblique injury last season effected both his accuracy & his ability to push the ball downfield somewhat. While the number of throws Drew probably feels he missed as a result of the injury are small in number, a competitor like Brees never likes to leave any play on the field that he feels he should make. I wonder what the other injury he refused to talk about ended up being though?

Compared to the Ingram wheel route? Yea. Much smaller window to throw to.

Not only was the pass by Brees to Cooks right on the money & Cooks route a thing of beauty but the execution by the entire offensive unit on the play was excellent.

Brees to Cooks

1. Drew Brees, Mark Ingram & Austin Johnson carry out the play fake to perfection.

Out of I Formation, all three parties carry out the run fake & watch the linebackers & the safety to the top of the play bite up very hard on the run action. The false steps by that safety is key here.

2. Brandon Coleman unselfishly runs a crossing route across the middle.

Watch Coleman, who is lined up at the bottom of the screen, run completely across the formation. This replay doesn't show it but the single high safety to the top of the screen gets caught watching Coleman as he crosses the field.

3. The protection upfront is flawless.

The offensive line absolutely builds a wall around Brees & no Patriot defender comes close to him.

4. Brees eyes Coleman while knowing he is going to Cooks.

Brees also helps to get the single high safety to move out of position by first looking at Coleman crossing the field.

5. Brandin Cooks initially sells the underneath route.

Cooks does a beautiful job selling the underneath route to both the underneath corner & the safety over the top. This poor safety was getting mind fricked from several different angles on this play. He had no chance on such a well designed play where the intention was to make him have to form a decision quickly. He chose wrong & got burned in the process.

Not really. With all the action going on by the design of the play, the safety gets caught out of position but he still races in late as the ball is getting to Cooks. The window doesn't end up being as open as you make out it to be.

Seriously, the Brees to Cooks pass was 55 yards in the air and absolutely perfectly placed.

We see that pass of the caliber to Ingram almost weekly.

I'm not sure he's thrown a deep ball that perfectly since Devery in 2011. The entire sequence was insane. Cooks had him beat by 1 step

There was something about that play that just stirred something in me again. My dad and I just knew it was coming as soon as we faked it, and Drew cocked back to throw. It was so vintage Payton/Brees. Haven't seen that play and pass look that good since '09 and '11.

It's one of the reasons I'm so excited about the playaction-Cooks combo.

Uhhhh. Go back and watch that vine about 10 more times. The defender could have picked corn out of cooks shite. If cooks had a pocket on the front of that jersey, the ball would have fallen right in it. Absolute murderous deep ball accuracy unmatched by anyone else in this league. Brees is amazing.

Max Unger is going to be a HHHHUUUUUGGGGGEEEEEEE IMPROVEMENT over what we have had the last few seasons. I really believe that he will elevate the play of the rest of the line.

The TD pass to Cooks, and the wheel route to Ingram were definitely sights to see though. Drew dropped both in the basket, and in stride. His velocity was impressive as well.
