I think Sean Payton would stay beyond Brees. A QB struggle may lead him to look elsewhere.

(I know! Draft can't get here soon enough.)

If he drafts Brees' replacement, he'll stay anyway. That is not a reason to drop a 1st rounder on a guy to sit for 2 years when you say you want to win now.

Bryce petty can be had in the 2nd or 3rd rd. But he would be a good get in the 2nd or 3rd IMO.

Petty is flying up draft boards. He is trending on going in the 1st.

Everyone keeps trying to tie this to the Favre/Rodgers scenario, but there is a huge difference between their situation and the Saints' with Brees.

Favre simply was non-committal and consistently contemplating retirement right when Rodgers fell in their laps. He was a security blanket in regards to Favre. They lucked out that the timing worked, but it's not like the same thing is present with Brees.

That's true but if we can get Petty or Grayson with one of our 3rds I would be ok with that. I don't know if either will be there or not though. I definitely wouldn't take either in the first.

Upside is we can give him a 5th year option to solidify the back-up role for the next 5 years.

Biggest upside of selecting Petty at 31... Is not selecting in the top 5 after Drew retires. Everybody knows he's getting older and we don't have a replacement for him. Management know this

Just stop! This is trade bait guys! Its not an accident that all this shite just came out yesterday. They want someone like the Jets to bite on it to move back into the 1st round and they can pick up more picks for just moving back 6 spots.

If we draft Petty at 31, it's for trade bait

So are all the other players, that's what happens when you stay alive.

Even while getting older, he is still outperforming a lot of young guys not named Luck. He will play for at least another 5 years; therefore, it makes no sense to draft someone this high now unless management knows for a fact he will be great.

Money, age, and performance. Brees may not be "done" but his time here could be winding down

We are already seeing how having all your money tied up in an aging QB can limit addressing needs at other positions

This is a do or die year. If down the line you can trade Brees for assets and have a QB waiting in teh wings, the better off we will be.

I slightly agree only because I don't want to live through the season Indy had to be able to get Luck. I would rather have someone that's been learning for 2-3 years than have to have a suicide inducing season to get a NFL ready college QB. That being said I still don't want in the first. Maybe the second if we have a great first round.

I don't think CSP passes on a guy to help win now to take a guy who may help him stay later.

Draft day!!!!

I kind of hope it is trade bait I want all our first round picks to go on the interior of our defense...

Meateye you have to admit that picking up a qb like Petty wouldn't be bad later on the 2nd round tho

So stupid

Let's wait 3-4 years on a player to "maybe" play.
