Well as a Saints fan who went to their 1st game in 1967 you people have
NO IDEA of how bad it could get.The 1st 20 years under Mecoms ownership
made this look like we are Super Bowl contenders.Mecom made Daniel
Snyder look like the HUNTS or KRAFTS.
Gayles problem is she lets Lausha and Loomis make all the decisions,
incompetence breeds incompetence. She needs to hire real football people.

After the Dolphins game in '05 at TS, I saw Taglibue & Benson get mightily fricked with coming out of the elevator to ground level after the game. There weren't many cops/security there and the locals got hostile with them.
That was the best Saints team in Mecom's 19 year ownership and they only went 8-8.
Gayle's autopilot mentality until she dies is going to make the franchise drift until after the sale.

This helped Benson do an about face to keep the team here and hire Payton which set the Saints in its best trajectory ever.
Gayle needs a little local hostility and physicality as her wake up call if Lauscha screws up and lets her out of the bubble.

How old are you?
Seriously.
The entirety of the John Mecom ownership was far worse than anything today.

Not the entirety. Hank Stram had some very solid drafts with Galbreath, Muncie, Childs, etc.
Archie in his prime the Saints looked poised to be a contender in the NFC West.
IMO, Hank was fired too soon and Dick Nolan got on the cusp with Hank’s talent.
Then Dick drafted Erxleben at 13 and showed his colors culminating in the disaster 1-15 when ma y picked the Saints to win the division.
Bum was a solid hire who drafted better than Loomis but a drunk Stabler in decline was never going to get us over the hump.
Because of the egregious cap missteps, we’re looking at a larger rebuild than at any time in history. Being in a crap market with today’s FA rules means you can’t lock down elite players for their career without the very expensive tag.
Because NOLA is far worse than 1970s and the collective bargaining rules we are in the worst shape ever.
The team needs new vision and leadership. The team needs to be sold.

Angry drunk fans had nothing to do with it would have been an absolute PR disaster for the league if they allowed the team to move in the wake of Katrina. Tagliabue wasn’t going to let the team leave

Phillips had 1 great draft in 1981 though he had the #1 pick and passed on the best player. Loomis had an epic draft in 2017

In no way is it worse than the 70s.

The cap situation is awful but it doesn’t take that long to rebuild they do have to stop making it worse and take some big hits.

This is complete nonsense on multiple levels. NFL free agency isn’t like baseball or basketball. Teams have greater control over the players they draft than other sports. They don’t have to “over pay” because it’s a small market or what your bitch about the city happens to be.
The team is bad because they have managed the roster poorly. Definitely time for a change at GM.

Buffalo, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Green Bay, Detroit are all backwater cities but in contention.
Our ownership and management suck. The day after Brees left they should have gone into rebuild mode and took the cap asswhuppin for the next two to three years.

I think the lowest point is even after Tom Benson tried moving the team after Katrina and the NFL stopped him most Saints fans thought he was great because he danced for 15 seconds with an umbrella.

The Billy Joe years in the 90s were pretty terrible. Especially once everyone realized Ditka wasn't the same coach he was with the bears
