Dude this ain't even close to the lowest point. Pump the brakes on that shite. The 2005 season was not only a horrible team, but the franchise looked like it was finished it New Orleans.
You had the team setting up headquarters in hotel ballrooms and practicing at high school fields. They played games in like 20 different stadiums. You didn't know week to week where they would even practice or play. The games in Tiger Stadium were brutally hot, miserable, and empty stands. I remember sitting there during the Bears game in TS sweating my balls off watching Kyle fricking Orton shred our defense thinking this is the end of the Saints in Louisiana. It was a miserable time. God bless Paul Tagliabue for being the only person seemingly that fought to keep the team in NOLA.
quote:
After practicing for approximately a week in San Jose, California, where they had evacuated in conjunction with a pre-season game against the Oakland Raiders, the team set up temporary headquarters at the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk and Henry B. González Convention Center.[4] Practice facilities were arranged at a sports complex adjacent to Luther Burbank High School in San Antonio, Texas.[1]
The league then announced that although the Saints' first home game on September 18 against the New York Giants would be played at Giants Stadium at 7:30 p.m. EDT on September 19, other home games would be split between Tiger Stadium (the stadium of the LSU Tigers football) at LSU in Baton Rouge, and the Alamodome in San Antonio; offices and practice would remain in San Antonio throughout the season.
quote:
arious media reports in the San Antonio Express-News indicated the owner and government officials in San Antonio were working behind the scenes concerning a possible permanent relocation to San Antonio. San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger had pushed a strong verbal campaign to pursue the Saints. Other officials, including Texas Governor Rick Perry, had indicated that they would also support a relocation to San Antonio, including using funding to upgrade the Alamodome, or possibly build a new stadium.
quote:
CNN reported on September 7, 2005 that the hurricane had so badly damaged the Louisiana Superdome that it would likely have to be demolished.[6] On October 21, Benson issued a statement saying that he had not made any decision about the future of the Saints.[7] However, the San Antonio Express-News reported that sources close to the Saints organization said that Benson planned to void his lease agreement with New Orleans by declaring the Superdome unusable.[8]
quote:
The season began with the team trying to improve from their 8–8 record from 2004. The Saints played two preseason games in the Louisiana Superdome before being forced to evacuate New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina. They were forced to play the rest of the season on the road, splitting their games between their temporary headquarters at San Antonio’s Alamodome, and LSU’s Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, and even playing their first home game at Giants Stadium.
The season ended with a 3–13 record, their equal-worst record alongside 1996 and 1999 since their 1–15 1980 season, and the firing of Jim Haslett.
And don't forget our awesome draft from that year, including drafting a "QB" that lined up under the guard instead of the center on his first snap in the NFL. (ETA: and also got hit by a golf cart being driven by the Titans mascot

Holy shite was that a bad draft and brings back some horrible memories. Never mind the Bullocks, he was atrocious.
Chase Lyman with the cadaver ACL. Only the Saints could draft that guy.
‘Doberman’ Pincher. Another Haslett LB find. What did he last 1/2 a season? Woof.
Still laughing at the AMac meme where he gets redirected to piss in the toilet not the sink.
Thank God we can laugh at that shite now.

Not even close and I should know because I have been around since day one.
1980 and 2005 just to name two, were much worse.

We are at the lowest because all of you are missing one key ingredient: Tom Benson was business savvy and could lead a turnaround as an owner (did it twice with Finks/Mora and Payton/Brees).
Current owner has no skill set to right the ship, thus the constant floundering since she got the keys.
We’re at a low and the team needs to be sold. Hiring Moore would be akin to sprinkling whipped cream on shite hoping the bite tastes better.

Things started going downhill the last few years with Payton and boy oh boy!
The last few years with Payton were divisional loss, NFC championship loss, wild card loss, divisional loss, and I think going 9-8 the first year without Brees

Depleted and aging roster, and a 2-3 year cap nightmare.
Saints are 5 years from being competitive, and that’s if they start now.
Payton knew it, and also knew no single coach could survive it.
The only thing I would change about this is, Payton knew it because he helped create it. Payton was involved in a lot of the decisions that have lead to this point. He checked out before it blew up in his face.

Meh it all depends on the coaching hire and if you can draft a qb, that changes things quickly
Unfortunately by continuing to punt we missed the draft that seems to have produced several quality starters….but we’re all but guaranteed to be terrible next year so hopefully that class will be better

Maybe we can be competitive in 3 years with the right moves. I get your point.
I think dumping the vets, fixing the cap, and going young will take time.
it’s possible that the coach we have through the rebuild won’t be the one we have when we get back to winning.

I was at that damn 1980 game! That was the dawn of the Aints and the bag heads. Saints took the 35 to 7 lead at the half, they were 0-13 at that point of the season. Niners lifted Steve Deberg and put in Joe Montana, it was his coming out party. They tied it in regulation and won it on a Ray Wershing field goal in OT. Fortunately, the Saints won 21 to 20 the next week against the Jets, the only win of that season. Been a fan since ‘67, that was one of the lowest points I can ever remember as a Saints fan.

In the 70's and 80's, the season we just had would have New Orleans on cloud nine. We were spoiled by Mora and Payton. I think you can still find some old NFL films about the "Hapless Saints." Every goofy thing that ever happened in the NFL happened to the Saints. We looked like a bunch of clowns year in year out.

If he does that he will get a year 4 and we might be ready to compete again

Benson looking to move the team to San Antonio after Katrina was a bit worse big dog.

Definitely the most embarrassing
This organization is a clown show from owner all the way down to Rattler
And everyone in the NFL knows
Have y’all ever seen this many coaches turn down an NFL HC job or take themselves out of the running ever???
And the gutless local sports media keeps serving up softballs to Loomis. Especially the clowns at Fox8 and the Soros radio station.
Why would anyone go see this team play ever again?

You're a fricking moron.

Organizationally it certainly seems so. Certainly not on the field where we have been much worse.

Maybe not the lowest point, but definitely the stupidest due to the stupidest management.
