Not really. He filled a position of need & he's a good player.

We needed a safety, we got a safety.
We love Tyrann Mathieu, he is coming home.

Yeah this is a terrific signing. Our defense would have hurt if would have went in as is pre-signing

You sure you’re an LSU fan?

Or just being contrarian…

Can't wait to watch him and CGJ both ball hawk all over the field. He's exactly what this D needs on the back end. Should be fun. Take your negativity over to the Falcons board

Some fans are absolutely over-reacting, but you cannot blame the excitement. He's 1-2 years removed from being an All=Pro. Probably at the back end of his prime, but still in his prime. And fills a position of need; while having the skill set to play 2 positions of need. When you take a step back and realize how much nickel this defense plays, and the fact that he can play FS, SS, & the nickel role; it's a damn good signing. Everything says he should be a stud whether they put him at FS or SS, and if there is an injury in the secondary he can fill in just about anywhere but outside CB.

Remember the last time the Saints signed a free agent veteran ball hawking safety…?

Won a Super Bowl….

It’s possible to be excited and realistic. I’m not expecting him to be his sophomore LSU self but I’m hopeful that he can bring energy and leadership to the defense.

Yep. I wouldn't call him a great player anymore due to his age & injuries.

I don't think it's far fetched to call him a good player though.

His contract is very fair. 3 years, 33 mil. He'll have a low cap # in 2022, & Loomis probably gave us an OUT after the 2023 season. Can't complain about this signing.

Can't complain but there's nothing wrong with tempering expectations a smidge.

He’s a beloved LSU legend. Fans of both are understandably excited to have him on the home team again

It's my opinion that our safeties won't be as good as last year. But we reloaded pretty damn well for losing two starting safeties. I don't think the drop off will be that bad. And they will be fun to root for with the duo of Ceedy and TM7. The locker room is in good hands at the very least

Matthieu is better than Byrd ever was to be fair.

Also Byrd’s issue was that injury.

At 3 years 33 mil. He'll be 30y.o. in a week. If we get 3 years of solid play out of him I would consider that a success. He has only missed one game in the past five seasons which is pretty damn good considering his aggressive style of play.
