The super structure of the dome is in great shape. It was built so the interior could evolve.
Really amazing this state did this so absolutely right

No. Dont want them too either. A day will come where the superdome is more fully appreciated as the genius building it is, AND is simultaneously appreciated in the way fenway park is.
The superdome is freaking awesome and an absolutely landmark. New stadiums are nice but no stadium in nola could ever compete with the superdome.

I hope they never tear down the Superdome and build a new one. The Superdome is historic and like others have said, it’s in a perfect spot. I hate this recurring theme of building new stadiums. Same with Death Valley. The place is old af but I hope they never take that place down to build a new stadium. Too much history and memories in both of those places for me.

There's no need to replace the concrete and metal shell at any particular point in time. It was sized and constructed in a way that newer stadiums just have not been.
The only thing that it can't do (that I am aware of) is be an outdoor stadium, and I don't think anyone wants that.

Considering the major improvements that are going on, and that have been delayed, we are not getting a new stadium in the foreseeable future.

Why???

Considering the age of the Superdome and the fact that many teams around the league are getting state of the art stadiums, do you believe that the state of La/Nola will approve a new stadium venture for the Saints in the near future?
1. Most of those new stadiums are smaller than the Superdome in both seating capacity and physical space. Which means that if ownership needs to add amenities to keep up with the Jones then it has the space to do it. They might have to sacrifice some seats to add more suites or other premium amenities which would suck for the fans but it could and probably will be done in the future.
2. When the current renovations are finished the Superdome will have undergone $600 - $700 million worth of repairs and renovations since Hurricane Katrina. The Superdome will be as state of the art as any other stadium in the league once the current renovations are finished.

At what point do you see that start to fade and the draw of the Superdome gets old?
The Superdome will have to be replaced eventually, but it will not happen until the NFL, CFB playoffs, and the NCAA tell the city and state that its too old to host Super Bowls, CFB playoff games, and Final Fours, or if it develops structural problems that cannot be easily fixed. Until either one of those things happen the dome isn't going to be replaced.

Isn’t Mercedes ending it’s partnership as soon as the contract is up?
Yes. The contract expires in July. Get ready for the Capital-One Superdome or the Hancock-Whitney Superdome.

they just spent $500M renovating the Superdome.

I would be very surprised if there were any real discussion in the next ten years.

Models of the proposed stadium on riverfrot from before Katrina:
These are 2 completely different renditions of stadium proposals.
One was a riverfront stadium idea in Algiers...
...the 2nd was an open air stadium just outside the French Quarter where the Iberville projects are.

What value would be added by building a new stadium?
Posted on 5/8/21 at 11:52 am to coondaddy21
Come on man... the Saints know better than to even ask...

Eventually they'll be a retractable roof in the Superdome
And in true New Orleans style, it will leak badly.

The State owns the facility, so their is very little chance that the state or the local government would or could put enough in to make the deal work.
These deals are usually pushed by ownership and I don't see Gayle pushing for a brand new stadium. It may cost New Orleans Super Bowls in the future, but again that falls on the State and Local government over lost revenue.

I’m not sure where else you would want to build a stadium. If you really wanted to, the Saints could play at LSU again for a year or two like the Vikings did at MU.
More likely than not, if a new stadium is built on the site of the Dome, the Saints are playing at Yulman Stadium versus Tiger Stadium. Yeah it’s smaller but you aren’t going an hour away from the city. Plus, The Chargers kind of set that precedent when they played in the LA Galaxy stadium while SoFi Field was being built.

Tiger Stadium can accommodate all fans. Yullman has 20,000 seats

Dude I don’t disagree with you that Tiger Stadium is bigger but logistically it is much easier to play in New Orleans in a smaller stadium than travel to Baton Rouge away from operations. Not saying they wouldn’t do it, but I can see Gayle pushing for playing at Tulane as Benson made a significant investment in getting Yulman built. And like I said, the Chargers set the precedent of playing in a smaller stadium when they played in the MLS stadium while SoFi Field was being built. It may not be ideal but I think that’s the logical play if a new stadium gets built.
