He’s the ONLY good and healthy running back we have right now.
At least it wasnta4 year deal. Two years is good.
Need to draft another rb for the future.

AK loves being here and is a good fit for the city. This gives us net cap refuge for 2025 and isn’t a huge anoint of money nor a very long term.

Did they do this so he is numbers are lower to be traded?

I love AK but this team needs to be blown up.
I think we all need to come to grips with the fact that:
1. Loomis is delusional and will not admit this roster is done. He thinks he can still win with these guys and will keep resigning the older guys while he attempts to tweak the roster. I don't see Loomis every really blowing it up and starting over. I think that will be the next GM's job.
2. Gayle Benson is never gonna hold him accountable. I truly think we could win 2-4 games for the next 2-3 years and Loomis would still be here. She is loyal to a fault. Think she's too old and set in her ways to want to blow up the franchise with someone knew running things. She views Loomis as family.
Loomis will convince himself and Gayle, that the roster we saw weeks 1 and 2 were the healthy team he's envisioned and we just had bad luck with injuries, but it looked promising enough to give it another chance. He will run it back next year with DA and the same old roster.

Not seeing Dead Cap numbers on Spotrac but looks like 25 & 26 are pretty low Cap Hit numbers.
Setting the stage for him to be cut or traded more easily after this season? Is this really a “retire a Saint” move? Only time will tell.

Yeah I think his arrogance is being shielded by this stance that it's a small sample size and people like us are overreacting, etc.
After this year, it isn't exactly a small sample size anymore. Saying this is all luck is getting silly.

OTC luckily hasn't updated his contract.
He had a $22.4M base salary in 2025 and his cap number was $29.1M
We could have cut him pre-June 1 (which means no impact on 2026) and saved $18.9M. That means $0 on 2026 and every successive year.
We could have cut him post-June 1, which would have saved $25M on 2025 and pushed about $4M.1 into 2026 (again, nothing thereafter).

it is as if the Saints FO is only looking at the first two games and rewarding him. Forget the 5-game losing streak and what have you.
or maybe, and hear me out - they know what he has int he tank right now based on the 1st 2 games, and with the 5 game losing streak, they re4alize the guy can only do so much when your entire O-line is basically turn styles due to injury

Great guy,I loved him 3 yrs ago. probly too old to pay this. Another, old player to replace came in deadcap once he's off it

Loyalty
Is stupid, you know what loyalty in the Saints current situation gets you? Even more suffering. You won’t win shite by being loyal. Yeah sounds good in theory and I would all for it if they weren’t in salary cap hell but that isn’t the case. It is past to time burn it to the ground.

27-31 over the last four year, worst cap situation in the history of the NFL.
At least we are loyal to Cam Jordan and Alvin Kamara! As if we haven’t paid them handsomely throughout their career before the extensions

To be fair to Cam, in his prime he was VASTLY underpaid

Paying over $10M/year in cap money to a RB is a luxury we can't afford.
Extending an aging running back is insane.
His contract was perfectly set up for us to be able to cut him without even pushing dead money into 2026. It was on a silver platter for us.

Obscene money flying around.

Credit to him for sticking with this dumpster fire
Posted on 10/23/24 at 2:54 pm to FireGoodell
I love AK but he is staying for the $/contract b/c he knows it's guaranteed. Much more comfortable to stay than start up somewhere else this late in his career.
