A thread about endzone designs in Superdome history

In December of 1987 I was a bright eyed lad new to New Orleans... heck I was new to America. Me parents had taken me out of Mrs. Billingway’s prep school in Mayfair (a posh neighbourhood in London) that summer and deposited me in Mrs. Greenway’s 1st grade class at St. Martins in Metairie and in me new childhood home in Chateau Estates on the back 9.
During this holiday season, I entered the strange landmark known as the Louisiana Superdome for the first time. I had been watching the Saints on tv in the weeks leading up to this encounter as me entire class has caught “who dat fever”. I was blown away by the immense size of the domed wonder, but what really stood out to me was the bright WHITE solid coloured endzone - like nothing I had seen on TV. My father was also new to America and didn’t know what the “Sugar Bowl” was - we thought perhaps it was some sort of confectioner who had purchased sponsorship rights for this advertising space as common on English football jerseys.
When the great Walter Stanley celebrated a Packers touchdown by doing an elabourate flip routine across the bright white paint, my young eyes exploded with joy despite the fact that he played for the wrong team. I remember being surprised at how bright and vivid the Packers yellow was compared to the drab khaki of the Saints.
Mates, won’t you join me this week in reaching out to the Saints contacts on Airline Drive and request solid coloured endzones for this upcoming weekend?

I’m baffled at why we can’t bring back the solid black end zones

Just noticed the Browns have grass end zones tonight.

Pathetic that we didn’t even get solid coloured endzones for CFF championship. Doug Thornton is a lazy POS

They then replaced "Sugar Bowl" with "Tulane" in later astroturf years.

Believe it or not, the color of the end zone is not the “on field product” that the organization and fans are worried about.
