A 3-14 season is needed to all but guarantee finding QB1 in loaded ‘24 class.

Purge the roster of every bloated contract and player that has any draft value left. Acquire as many picks and draft at positions of need. They’ll go through growing pains, but we’ll be better positioned for 2024 with a high draft pick and cap space. Then go hire an offensive head coach.

The saying is “teams don’t tank, organizations do”. Obviously the players on the field are trying to win. The plan should be to trade off players that aren’t part of the future, or have contacts you can get rid of, then start loading up through the draft. Saints are actually decent at drafting.

You’re half right. The players and coaches will never go out and intentionally lose (see the 2022 Houston Texans). But franchises have tanked by roster many times

That’s the point in the short term
There are multiple examples of franchises that have done that in multiple sports. Once you’ve gotten the draft picks you hire a better coach

6 games against the NFC South (worst division in league)
4 games against the AFC South (2nd worst)
Catch Detroit, NYG & Chicago at home. Detroit appears to be on the upswing and could be a tough one; but Chicago & NYG appear to have big ??? at QB.

Texans just hired the hottest coach out there. If the Saints get a top two pick in 2024, you don’t think one of these young offensive guys will want to come to New Orleans? Saints have some young talent. They just need to fix cap and qb.
