The pre season lines have us as underdogs in every game except the Giants at home.

For the over and under, I think 5 is about right. The big unknown is the quarterback situation.

It's vs the Jets not Giants. We have a rookie HC and rookie QB. We aren't winning 7 games. Rattler hasn't won a game yet and rookie QBs don't play well enough to carry a team.

We'll be lucky to get 5 wins. A healthy Carr would get us 7 or more but he's retired.

Nobody should realistically be looking Shough / Rattler to "carry" a team at this stage of their respective careers. You need them to not "lose" you any games via taking sacks, fumbles, or forced INTs.

What we need to carry the team/offense is the O-line. Between continued improvement from Penning and Fuaga ( if any progress is made with Ruiz that'd be lagniappe) plus the addition of Banks, and Radunz wherever he may fit in, this is a fair expectation. Combine that with a creative scheme & timely play-calling I believe the OL will be the strength of our team this year. Just remember, it was not a hindrance at all last year until McCoy injury. Kubiak improved the run game as a whole & Kamara's average was his highest yet, and Kube was good to start games but he did not adjust well throughout the game. The in game adjustments will the be the biggest factor I'm looking for in Moore.

After that the next critical piece is the damn injury bug that crippled us last year.

Agree with your post but I would say that the three big critical pieces are:

- OL
- Coaching (IMO DA is the worst NFL HC of the last 10-15 yrs)
- Injuries

DA was awful, but Jerrod Mayo and Urban Meyer blew up so spectacularly they lasted only a season. DA was at least able to notch a winning record.

The league also had some great ones in Steve Wilks, Matt Patricia, Matt Eberflaus, Joe Judge, Steve Spagnola, Hue Jackson in the same time frame.

And we still get to see if Dave Canales & Brian Callahan can do enough to warrant a 2nd season.

DA should not have been given the job, I understand considering him, and it only got worse because Mickey needed Gayle to step in a show him his mistake. *Unless the plan was to let DA finish in glorious fashion and get us the #1 pick. They were only a loss to NYG for a top 3 pick, and 2 losses from contention for the #1 overall

Given all this why do you trust Mickey to get it right this time?

To be fair to Loomis, he is sitting at .500. He got it right with Payton, and missed big time with DA. When he hired DA, he conducted a sham of a process, and we ended up with DA. When he hired Sean & Kellen, he actually went through the full process before making the hire (FYI, unless & until he wins a SB, this will be the only way I link the similarities of the 2).

Does he get it right? No idea, but we should have some optimism that he didn't just go with the "safe pick" and bring in one of his buddies.

Why do you just assume he got it wrong?

OK, you convinced me.

I revise my prediction. Instead of 5 wins, I predict that the Saints finish with 6 wins and 1 tie.

5 wins is the ceiling, more likely 2-3 wins.

DA is 26-53, .329. 6th worst record since 2000 among HCs with 50+ games

He is objectively terrible

I don't personally think there's any way this team is 0-17 or 1-16 or 2-15

i don't think anyone does, nor have i seen anyone here or in the national media that is claiming this... i know we are only favored in one game this season, based on one of the sports books out there, but no one is thinking the are only winning one game this year...

If we win only 1 game this year, Moore has to go.

The Saints season could go one of 2 ways.It could be a 5-7 win team or if it stays healthy could be like Sean’s 1st season and surprise everyone. It will all depend on the progress of the QB who ever that is.

Did the team get worse

Yes.

Rookie QB. No Taysom. Kamara a year older. Still no answers at TE/ receiver.

And this is ONLY THE OFFENSIVE SKILL PLAYER PROBLEMS.

I think it’s going to be a rough year. Very tough. I think we win 4 or 5 games.

If you think that, you're giving a lot of credit to Derek Carr. Other than losing him, the Saints upgraded the coaching staff and (slightly) upgraded the roster, and the schedule this season is just as easy as last year. QB is where the team may have taken a big step back.

Carr was a decade long starter in the NFL, which Shough or Rattler will likely never become.

Tampa had a great offseason and is in the top 3 roster in the NFC and should have no problem winning the South fir the 5th year in a row.

We are far removed from competing with the good teams and much of this season should be spent on further personnel and coaching changes. Not that it matters much with Gayle and Mickey still in charge.
