2024 - The year of good God we are screwed

71.5mil projected over the cap. Aging vets. You know it, we're gonna do some cap gymnastics.
Restructure
Jordan - saves 9mil
Lattimore - saves 11mil
Ramczyk - saves 13mil (This honestly needs to be considered for a paycut. his base salary is 17mil)
Kamara - saves 8mil
Davis - saves 8mil
Carr - saves 23mil
Hill - saves 7mil
Ruiz - saves 6.5mil
McCoy - saves 7mil
19.6mil under the cap with those restructures. Now I don't have to argue with everyone, I think we can all agree half of those are just bad moves that make guys unmovable.
Potential moves:
Mathieu and Maye
- Both June 1 cuts would save us either 7.5 or 9mil
- Howden has looked solid in coverage
Contracts to look at/Free agents
Michael Thomas: you and I know it, he's coming back at some weird contract
Andrus Peat: imagine he goes to his boy in Denver
Jameis Winston: moves onto another team to try to be a starter IMHO
Shaheed ERFA: easily kept
Zach Baun: has played well, but not worth it unless its a cheap deal for ST/spot duty

why are we constantly always over the cap?
The way I look at it it kills you in Free Agency....
We have obvious OL and DE issues. It would be nice to improve 1-2 positions on the OL and add a Pass Rush Specialist.
Having money allows you to get one of the top 5 guards available and maybe one tackle in the 8-10 range, but an upgrade.

Yes and we are getting worse every year, digging ourselves deeper and deeper. $70 mill in negative cap is twice as much as the next closest team. The less money you have to spend, the worse your team will inherently be. The bengals have +80 million in space in 2024, we have -70 million. Thats $150 million difference. They are already a way better team, but they also have the freedom to make acquisitions, while we are stuck restructuring our old arse bums.

This has been my position always, but I'm thinking about it differently now. The biggest issue is not that we can't get cap compliant, but rather that we're just stuck with the roster and have no flexibility. We HAVE to extend/restructure these contracts and make ourselves be stuck with these guys. The team doesn't even have the option to trade veterans and decide to rebuild.

100%... Morons like Proximo think we are stressing this stuff like its personal debt. No its a big deal because you use cap space to acquire players.

It seems like at some point the Saints will have to just suspend the season and sit out as a team because all of the cap will be tied up in dead money from bad contracts and the players are no longer even on the roster.
I honestly don't care anymore. Loomis always finds a way and it aint my money so.

Actually I think next season is better than we were last season. Oh, and we signed carr, so the cap can be played with.

It can be played with, but at a cost. Look at some of the moves being made right now. W cap space, we could have been in play for Street, Young, Hunter, Sweat… instead we have to keep bargain basement shopping to fill positions of need. And this doesn’t address the lack of quality depth throughout the roster.

Bottom line, we have to draft better with this philosophy. When we hit, it’s great…. When we don’t (Davenport, Turner, Penning, Olave (at least what we gave up), it just becomes too hard to overcome.

will give us around 16mil in cap space and 27mil over the cap for 25. looks like kamara will be a cap casualty after next year and i doubt they extend or restructure a 30 year old rb. it will clear up a little over 18mil for the 25 cap. cutting hill after 24 will also save close to 5mil. he'll be 35.
we can get out the woods with this. absolutely need to start drafting well. olave is a solid player despite some issues, but drafting penning really sets us back. hope he can turn it around at least have some use somewhere.
can draft a LT and S(deep safety capable) as a priority. also OG, DT, WR and we'll see what davis and jordan do after this year. LB and DE could end up being needs also.

I'm one of the biggest "the cap doesn't matter" guys on this board. But it didn't matter when the Saints were good. They are not good right now. Being a bad team and having no cap space or assets is a bad thing, IMO.

The problem is we've been bad but actually trying to be good. If rebuilding, it's fine, which it's time to do unless we go on some miracle run to finish this season, which isn't happening.
