He strained his hamstring on a back to back last year. Not sure if that theory holds.

Well what if they win and sit Zion/BI? Would you still be upset? The whole point is to win and if they achieve that while resting the stars, isn’t that a good thing? If you’re going to the game I completely understand the frustration though.

I know this isn't directed at me but I'm obviously one of the ones frustrated. But for me, yes, I'd still be upset. I'm going to be happy about the win but I'm disappointed that the team is already taking an overly cautious approach to Zion. Year 5, a guy that has had PLENTY of rest, and is obviously still shaking the rust off of his game, and after four games in you're treating him with kid gloves. Give me a break.

Yes, process vs results.

I'll gladly take 4-1, but this is our all in season and through 5 games, our 2 best players would have missed 40% of those games with only 1 having a pretty darn minor injury.

That IMO doesn't bode well for forecasting out how many games we can get out of these 2 dudes when actual, real injuries pop up.

This isn’t Zion’s fault. This is the team making this call. Place your anger where it is warranted.

It’s warranted on the out of shape bitch that isn’t playing tonight that has a $250M contract.
Why is he so special that he won’t play today on the b2b?
JV isn’t being a bitch, or old arse CJ, or anyone else that played last night.

It’s real easy to tell your team “I’m playing”. But when you’re out of shape and don’t give a shite, you just accept someone telling you to be a bitch and not play.

Yeah I get that. I just don’t know what else you do with him either. I cant fault them because honestly dont know if its the wrong way of dealing with him. I felt like last year they started to just let him play and not care. Then the hamstring crap happened. Then its issues recovering from long term injuries. I mean hes an absolute mess to manage but I can’t get mad because I don’t know what exactly is the right way to deal with him.

And he's played four games this year. Four. Four. FOUR! Last year he maybe needed that rest on a b2b, he had at least played 29 games, right now, he doesn't need the rest. He missed the last 64 games of the season last year and the majority of his games for his entire career. He has had enough rest for a 23 year old. Let the mfer loose, quit babying him. That strategy hasn't worked, if you can't see that that hasn't worked and think we don't need to baby him, I don't know what to tell you.

Can’t believe spread was -7.5. I’d be all over Detroit tonight

You’re not wrong especially in regards to forecasting those players dealing with real injury issues. At this point, with BI- I think thats a more personal than a team decision. With Zion- I think thats team based and its not an injury. I don’t know if we can forecast both into the same category. But I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. When it comes to recovery- BI has no pain tolerance; Zion had conditioning issues. I feel you need to trade one to have a more reliable star to carry you through the season.

I won't pretend to know the medical science behind these decisions. As a fan, I hate it. Yes, the point is to win, but its also to entertain and give the bill payers their money's worth. But you better win. I know they care about TV deals and not necessarily ticket sales. So, good luck with ticket sales if you are mediocre and your 23 year old star "rests".

But we do know it's the wrong way of dealing with him. We've seen that approach every single year and it hasn't worked. They have to try a different approach and that is ride him. Teat him like a star and let him get some load management but don't give him some special treatment that literally no other player in the league is getting. LeBron James, at the age of 75, if they both stay healthy, will play more games than Zion this year. As much as I hate LeBron, he was playing 80 games until the age of 33. Yet we have a 23 year old that never plays and 4 games in you're treating him lighter than an old LeBron. It makes no sense.

We don’t know who is playing for Detroit yet either. Don’t go throwing money around too soon.

No strategy has honestly worked. I mean Zion is everything to this franchise- Willie’s job may depend on his health, this team’s success is directly tied to him. I think thats why maybe the babying.

So if he plays and tears his ACL tonight- you’re ok with that because he wasn’t babied? You wouldn’t have any regrets- that damn if we just held this fool out our season wouldn’t be lost?

Because Lebron takes care if his body and Zion doesn’t. Players in this league will get the rest designation. This isn’t something that wont happen- Lebron himself will probably get one or more.

It's 5.5, and the Pels without BI/Zion are better than the Pistons and playing at home.

Yeah, but is pretty telling that guys like Lebron and Kahwi haven't "rested" within 5 games of the season. Hell, I don't even think AD has.

Zion has missed ton of games and they been mediocre past couple of years. Pels in september said they were leading the league in ticket sales. I don’t know if this Zion rest stuff actually affects ticket sales.

I know this, that if Zion were to tear his ACL in a game tonight, it would not be because of a plane delay. Which seems to be the general consensus of why you don't play him in this back to back. Because he does not need the rest, 4 games into the season, he doesn't, that can't be argued. If he were to tear it, it would be from some other reason, someone fell on him, lands the wrong way, etc.
