The dunk contest is at half time this year and is an abbreviated version.

When asked today, his response was:

"Who knows? That's all I can say. Who knows? I might. You never know."

Non committal answer but it was playful so I would say there is a chance.

Personally...I think there is no upside for him to participate.

We don't need anymore torque going through those knees than is absolutely necessary

I am personally banning Zion from the Dunk C

It would be the true test to see if he is as explosive as he was in college

He’s 20. Let him be a kid if he wants to be a kid.

He should do a dunk with Kira strapped to his back. It'd be both a spectacle, and allow him to point out how he's used to dunking with people draped all over him.

There’s really no upside of him doing it like I said. Lebron never did.

And there’s no way he can beat someone like Lavine if he participates.

I would say glad you're not a GM, but you're still probably batting better than Dave Griffin at this point

Well if he breaks the fricking goal and no one else can dunk he would still win right?

Lebron is a bitch, and a loser for never entering the dunk contest. His fear of being embarrassed is why he never entered.
MJ did it. Kobe did it.
Giannis did it and finished last. Who cares.
Lillard did, Donovan Mitchell, Blake Griffin.
Don’t be a pussy like Lebron.

If he feels good, he should enter this year or next year.

I still don't think he is where he was at Duke, but I also don't think there's to many guys in the league that could go up and get that putback that he did the other night.

He’s a top 1% world class athlete. If we treat Zion likes he’s glass, I’m sure he will be frustrated by that. Look at how frustrated he was with how they handled him last year compared to this year.

Your right the dunk contest now is more about building your brand, but Zion brand is already big and the dunk contest wouldn't really help.

He just needs to keep doing what he's doing keep teasing that you may do it like LeBron did.

Exactly. Every kid who picks up a basketball dreams of being in the dunk contest. Who hasn't lowered the goal to 8 foot and did a windmill? Let the kid have fun.

To all the "no upside" people what's the downside? Has there ever been an injury in the NBA dunk contest? Stop being boomers.

Zion is supposed to have his signature shoe with Jordan Brand released sometime this year. Not sure where they're at with that process, but the dunk contest would be a great platform for him to introduce the inaugural shoe.

I’m not gonna melt if he does it, but if it were up to me, and it’s not, I wouldn’t do it.

Not that I think this one event is the difference between health and a life of injury and ruin, but because the condition he is going to have to perform under just sort of sucks.

He’s gonna be playing in the game, then everything is done haphazardly at half time, then he has to come back out and play. And it’s all done under this terrible league schedule where it’s not like he is a ton of time to really prep or practice. You hear most of the guys that do something special tend to practice and prep for weeks out.

I agree it would be smart for his personal brand and such, but unless it’s like some lifelong dream, I’d wait and do it next year if it were me. When things in the league aren’t a shitshow, you can have time to practice and prep properly, the contest is done properly, and you have the best chance to shine.
