I think people here are underrating Cam Whitmore. I honestly don’t understand why he doesn’t play more.
Nah, there’s a group of us on here that were pretty vocal about wanting to draft him instead of Hawkins…..

And Steven Adams is a Center who plays less minutes has more than double the amount of assists compared to Whitmore. The kid had this problem in college as well, I see this as Udoka giving him tough love. He would be infinitely more dangerous if he looked to facilitate more often. The auxiliary skills are there. This is part of his development and Udoka is right to be hard on him.

It’s more of who Miami would be willing to move, but Ware also has the skillset to play the 4, remember he’s shooting 43% on 3’s this season.
On a total of 21 shots all season.
Still shows he can hit the 3

9 total assists. You can argue it all you want but he needs to move the ball more when he's on the floor. He's averaging 20.5 FGA per 36. That's absolute bonkers for a guy who doesn't pass the ball.

The fact Nick Richards only costs salary and a 2nd is crazy.

With this new CBA 2nds maybe more valuable than very late 1sts now just due to the ability to sign them to non guaranteed contracts.

quote:Jalen Green averages nearly 19 FGA per 36. Like Green, he’s a scorer. Green averages 2.8 assists per game. 1.5 more per game than Whitmore. We’re literally debating about 1 assist per game difference between franchise player Jalen Green and ball hog extraordinaire Cam Whitmore.

By the way, in the G-League this year, Cam Whitmore averages 3.1 assists per 36. With regular minutes, like he gets in the G-League, he passes more. When he’s only getting into NBA games with a few minutes left in garbage time, there’s no time to settle into any kind of rhythm. Everyone is just trying to get theirs. Give him regular playing time and I guarantee his assists will go up.

Whitmore averaging 1.2 assists per 36. Less than last season where he averages 1.4. I don't even know what you're arguing here. He has a lot of ability but his flaw is evident and needs to be corrected before he can be a core rotational player.

I’m arguing that he can score buckets. You’re arguing that he doesn’t play more because he doesn’t get enough assists. I’m arguing that he would get more per 36 if given regular minutes.
People who just look at his stats don’t understand how good he is.

quote:Huh? Model citizen? He spouted off to the media with frustrations about his lack of playing time (after struggling). He shoved two teammates (Green and Eason) and walked off the court to the locker room before the rest of the team as the clock was running out during a game. I get that he may be frustrated, but seems to be pretty immature and thinks he is better than he is.

There's a reason he fell in the draft

But it’s cool that y’all think he’s some kind of problem, because I wouldn’t want to trade him anyway.

Which is true. Besides this one brief interview where he showed frustration about a lack of playing time, there has been zero issues with him at all. You’re acting as if this is some long-running character issue, as if he’s Kevin Porter Jr.
I hated Kevin Porter Jr. on the Rockets. He was a total head case. A distraction. Poor character. That’s not at all Cam Whitmore.
And as for why he fell in the draft, the main issue was a lack of cartilage in his knee. Other possible reasons that have been speculated is he didn’t impress in his workouts and one team thought he interviewed poorly.
You’re trying to paint Whitmore as something he’s not.
