I would make the trade just to enjoy watching us play the Heat and have Brooks reduce Ingram to near tears.

BI is kind of a distressed asset at this point.
Hard to get much return back on a guy whose contract is expiring and won’t sign an extension.
The real question is how much of a setback like be someone like Brooks to any actual assets we get from this. Because getting something is typically better than nothing unless there is a massive cost associated with it.
$20m for an extra season isn’t that bad if he is still tradable.

Change it to:
Miami: Ingram, Brooks
Houston: Butler, Theis
Pels: Robinson, JSJ, Jovic or Ware
Pistons: Adams and whatever draft picks Miami needs to send
Gets us way out of the tax and we get two young prospects with an expiring 19 million dollar deal next year.

As much as I would like Ke’el Ware, how are we supposed to develop him and Missi at the same time?
Posted on 1/8/25 at 12:38 pm to teke184
It’s more of who Miami would be willing to move, but Ware also has the skillset to play the 4, remember he’s shooting 43% on 3’s this season.
A 4 and 5 rotation of Zion, JSJ, Ware and Missi has those spots set for years and also gives plenty of depth to overcome injuries. Missi is really the only one of those guys that can only play the 5.

I just dont think this is realistic. Pelicans arent getting Jabari Smith jr and Jovic or Ware for Brandon Ingram. And Miami isnt giving up a 1st round pick to turn Jimmy into Brandon Ingram.

We also take on what’s considered a bad contract in Duncan, so instead of any picks for taking the deal Miami sends a player. For our part it’s basically Ingram for JSJ, and then since we have extra space we take a bad deal in Duncan for an asset, whether that asset is Jovic or Ware.

They’re not giving up a pick for that, the pick is for shedding 12 million dollars and getting themselves out of the tax this season. That would be worth it to them, and they maybe able to make it happen with 2nds or sending a 1st while getting some seconds back from Detroit.

Raptors got back Bruce Brown and 3 1sts for Siakam in the same exact situation last year.

I wouldn't mind Whitmore, but I don't want Dillon Brooks asshat attitude on this team, nor do I want that contract of 2 more years at $20M each. He's a negative asset in my book, and if I were taking him on with Whitmore for BI, then I'd want at least 2 1sts as well.

And on 40 last season in college, so he’s at 61 shots at 43% which means he can shoot the 3. Not sure what you’re trying to argue here

quote:Just pointing out that 43% is very misleading for someone who has shot only 21 all season. I would not call him a stretch 4 or assume he is a reliable 3 point shooter. Maybe he has the tools to develop at some point, but do not see it that important yet.

Does it really matter? When one is not on the court, the other will be.
I like the trade, it’s the kind of players we should be targeting. Theres quite a few I’d be happy prying from Houston.

quote:Agree. I would want younger players on nice contracts to evaluate for a few years. Houston does not appear ready to trade their young talent. But you're right, they are certainly a team I would be shooting for.

quote:I think people here are underrating Cam Whitmore. I honestly don’t understand why he doesn’t play more. I’m not convinced Jalen Green is better than Whitmore. If Whitmore got consistent playing time, I feel he’d excel. He’s just as athletic as Jalen Green, he’s bigger, is a better shooter (even if his numbers don’t show it this year), and can finish through contact.
I hear that, but you didn’t get back nearly enough for what you gave up.
I honestly don’t know why he doesn’t get more consistent minutes other than the coach and staff being committed to guys in front of him already.

Probably because he needs to learn how to pass the ball. Dude has 9 total assists all year. Talented player none the less.

He hardly plays. When he gets the opportunity, I’m sure he’s looking to put up points in the little time he has on the floor.

Sheppard barely plays but already has 4 times more assists.
