As long as it doesn’t affect any of our pieces and it doesn’t affect the agreed dates, I don’t see why the Pelicans wouldn’t allow it.

It’s not a three team trade is nothing is going from the pels or to the pels from another team. Since all we are trading is AD then we would have to receive something or add something else to make it a 3 way trade

He's referring to this line in the article, which is worded poorly, IMO.

It makes it sound like the entire trade hinges on Davis waiving his trade bonus.

I think it would be a huge stretch to say that the trade could be canceled if the bonus is paid.

Not that Davis deserves it, having forced the trade, but I would think the league and the NBAPA would have something to say about someone trying to cancel a trade over a kicker that AD is entitled to and there is money / room to pay for it.

I'm 99% sure that what the article is saying is that LA unloading those extra players to clear cap space won't be allowed unless AD waives his kicker.

It's just a really shitty sentence.

Your reading comprehension is next level abysmal.

“If Davis doesn't waive his $4.1 million trade bonus, the Lakers-Pelicans trade wouldn't be allowed even if Los Angeles finds a third team for the players not included in the original deal with New Orleans.”

AD could blow the deal up over greed lol.

I guess the whole ESPN staff let it slip through. Cruz tel you it’s not so?

I’m pretty sure that’s not how that works. The trade wouldn’t be reported as much if true. Also, this would have been front page news on every outlet if that were true.

The more I think about this my opinion is pretty straight forward. frick the Lakers and frick helping them. I don't care if they say they'll send us Kuzma, or more firsts. Don't care. Their misfortune and ineptitude is more valuable to the Pelicans than anything else they can give me.

I think economics are conspiring to frick the Lakers this offseason anyway.

With guys like Barnes and Horford opting out of big final years of their contract to sign new deals, the perception is starting to build that this will be a repeat of the “cap bubble” year where teams were throwing crazy money at players of questionable value like Solo, an aging Luol Deng, and Timofey Mozgov.

I’m with you but I would take kuzma or a first to move the trade date back. My stance is that they would almost be worse to sign a max player, rather than fill out the roster with a few solid complementary pieces to AD/lebron. They will literally have zero cap space to sign anything other than ring chasers if they do sign another max player. I think that will fail. But if they give us nothing then hell no we shouldn’t do them any favors.

My question is... did pelinka just straight up miss the trade date details when he agreed to the trade? I don’t really understand how he got himself in this situation, was this just a straight up oversight on the lakers part?

Bingo.....if this thing implodes, we could get 2 Zions in the next 5-7 years just off of LA’s picks...

Plus we will have our first round picks...

In order for the Lakers to involve a third team, Davis would have to waive his trade kicker. Because he is taking the money as of now, Lakers can't involve any other team.

The trade still goes through as currently constructed.

You suck

As of now, there isn’t a first they can send.

Per the Stepien rule, you can’t send out two consecutive picks and the way Griff structured the deal ties up the Lakers’ picks for 7 years while giving us some leeway on when the picks conveys

Ex - We don’t want 2020, we tied up 2021 so it only conveys if it is top 8 which basically means it is a 2022 pick, swap in 2023, get a 2024 pick with a deferment available to move it to 2025, etc.

Any additional first would mean that we take the 2020 first and move the 2021 conditional pick straight to a 2022 unconditional pick. Considering that the 2020 pick is likely to be in the high 20s, it isn’t really something we want.
