Would you make this trade for Kawhi?

Let’s say it is a depressed market and no other team is willing to offer huge assets in a trade for kawhi because of the fear that kawhi is just a rental and the Lakers are willing to make the same gamble they did with George and wait until free agency.

Would you be willing to trade Niko, Moore and a first rd pick for Kawhi?

Basically, are you willing to take the same chance that Okc did a year ago?

It is getting to the point that I am not sure if Spurs do get a better offer than that.

Yes, but Spurs would never do that inside of division trade.

You have one year in your organization to convince him to stay.

Do not let him off your lot.

That's basically the Buddy/Boogie trade all over again. The price is so low you'd have to make the trade.

The Spurs have plenty of time. Any big deals typically revolve around leverage and deadlines. When the trade deadline comes up in February, that's when both Los Angeleses, Boston and Philly will feel pressure to make their best offer or risk losing Kawhi to another team.

I feel the opposite. I feel like the offers will get worse towards the trade deadline.

If the offers are not good now because they fear a one year rental, they why would they get better when the fear then becomes it being a 2 month rental?

The Lakers would have Paul George on their team right now had they traded for him when they had the chance. There is no guarantee who Kawhi would sign with. If you're the Lakers, the Clippers/Celtics/Philly are all legit threats. If you're the Clippers/Celtics/Philly, trading for him might be the only way to have a serious shot at him. What if Boston/Philly trades for him on a "half season rental" and makes the Finals? Is he really going to leave a team that he helped get to the Finals?

With 4 teams with real interest someone will be willing to give up something of real value if Kawhi's health isn't a question.

I'm not giving up both a 1 and mirotic for a half season of kahwi. Mirotic already cost a 1 to get him.

Spurs can have Moore, hill and the 1 in Feb.

If deal now, spurs have to take back anjinca, and get hill, and #1.
I'm tired of the spurs.
He won't even suit up for them for a year. No mirotic.

You do know Mirotic is on a one-year deal too, right?

So you wouldn’t want to take the chance on Kawhi embracing playing alongside AD and Jrue at the expense of a pick in the early 20s/late teens?

Yes, any sane person would do this.

No - the Spurs wouldn't do it in a million years.

End of thread.

Spurs are quite content letting him waste two years of his career on the bench....they will listen to what’s out there in February, and deal him to a shitty team.

That would be a slam dunk trade. No way they would agree to it.

I am leery of any deal that bets the entire future on a single player.

Amen, vor.

I was against buddy and a 1 for cousins for that reason. And sure enough boogie went down.
The kings traded down and got 2 1st rounders.

So far id rather have buddy and the two first rounders.
Maybe cousins will be back.
Maybe cousins lasts another season.
I don't know how the 2 first rounders look so far.

The two picks were Justin Jackson and Harry Giles. They held Giles out for the season due to injury. So he'll be a rookie this season. Giles had a pretty good summer league and there are expectations he'll split time with Bagley (LINK ). They are counting on Jackson to be the starting SF, but they are also looking for a vet in case he can't handle it. Hield didn't set the world on fire, but he is turning into a solid SG.

So they turned Cousins into 3 rotational pieces. Not a bad return and could be better if one of those guys really emerge. Giles is only 20 and hugely talented. I try not to dwell over the Cousins trade anymore, but it was a mistake. Best to just move on now..

Any trade should not be taken in the vacuum.
There is opportunity cost. Sunk cost.

Because of DMC injury Davis started to play center. He played great there.
Mirotic got a lot of PT.
Holiday played best basketball of his life.

Pels used MLE and BAE. It is debatable how far they can go into the tax with Boogie $20M+.

Pels paid their price and it was not franchise killing.

The goal is to re-sign AD.

It is still possible.
