Ownership gave GM Dell Demps and Monty Williams preseason mandate to make playoffs to keep jobs, w/ no allowance for injuries. They made it.

Because he can't be wrong about it. Color me skeptical.

The idea that the decision to keep/fire a coach comes down to 1 game is rather silly.

Whatever decision they make/made(hopefully to fire Monty) should have been made and a win or loss last night shouldn't change that.

You mean this wasn't a given already? They both should have known that its playoffs or you're fired.

He said it was a "preseason mandate"...seems pretty reasonable to me.

Benson is a business man. Setting goals and promising to change things if goals aren't met is not silly.

Woj was on the Dan Patrick show this morning and asked about the issue. It was in the context of NBA coaching changes. It's that time of year. Woj did kick around the idea it (Monty fired) might not have occurred with the late push to get in the playoffs. Woj threw out the comment there were rumblings "around the league" about Monte getting fired, but to Monty's credit, the team rallied around him and played hard for him.

Can someone explain why a lot of the fanbase wants Dell Demps gone, I understand that he hasn't drafted well (AD was a no brainer, any GM would have taken him). But I think he's a pretty important reason we are where we are today, look at the difference in quality and depth of our bench compared to this time a year ago. Thanks in advance

His small moves have been home runs. His big moves have been debatable. Big moves matter more than small moves.

Dell Demps on report that ownership put a mandate to make playoffs to keep job, "...never said to me, that conversation never happened"

Demps basically redeemed all the shitty moves he made by bringing in Cole, Pondexter, Ajinca and Cunningham. It took him 5 years to actually bring in NBA capable players to anchor the bench, guys that actually fit the scheme.

Lets not forget: Greg Stienmsa, Brian Roberts, Roger Mason, Darius Miller, Lance Thomas, etc etc. We have had crappy depth for way too long. It's refreshing having 10 guys who can play in the NBA

Yeah.

Demps deserves credit for getting Q, Cole, Cunningham, Ajinca. But like ATL said, those are the small moves. Those are the moves most gms (Doc excluded) find some hits on.

Doesn't take anything away from reaching the playoffs. It's a great accomplishment given the circumstances and Demps made the moves to improve the team. But it doesn't put me in the Demps We Trust camp at all. Still plenty of questions going forward. But, it is worth enjoying this ride as long as it lasts.

I thought this was shitty timing by woj last night

There was really no reason to post it during/right after such a huge win.

Today would've been ok but why last night?

No, it's dumb.

I'd hope the Pels leadership have more vision than that. We should know if Monty is the guy for next season before last night's game, win or lose.

Better yet, if we lose last night, but OKC lost as well, somehow some game that we had nothing to do with it determines who our coach is next season, you think that is reasonable? That's pretty terrible vision and leadership IMO.

If you don't know after 81 games if this coach is your coach for next season, there's nothing that happens in game 82 that should change your mind, especially when there's a chance that game 82 could be our worst performance of the year, but we still get into the playoffs. Then it would come down to, hey if OKC wins you're fired. If they lose, you can stick around.

Fwiw, everyone seems to respect Zach Lowe alot, and he basically almost quoted exactly what I said about how good leaders don't make decisions based on the outcome of 1 game/winning a tiebreaker.

Did y'all hear all the love AD gave Monty after the game? No chance in hell he gets fired with that much support from the franchise player. No fricking way.

see Golden State last season.

Curry did the same exact thing for Mark Jackson. How'd that work out?
