Reading this, I am really not sure if Windhorst actually has any new info or not. There is certainly a perception now that we are down to Vaughn and Lee.

does "gaining traction" mean that there was a lot of inhouse convincing and others rejection that needed to go on.

the only part of article worth a crap.

quote:

"I'm not saying he's going to get his job because Charles Lee on the Bucks' staff is also going to be a strong candidate. The word coming out of Chicago at the draft combine is that Jacque Vaughn, who is close to Trajan Langdon... Jacque Vaughn is going to get a real serious look and has interviewed I believe with the Pelicans."

maybe they are hoping Vaughn can do what Monty did.

I'd prefer not to find out.

as others have said, the fact that no one else seems interested in hiring him as a head coach should speak volumes.

well to be fair, nobody seemed overly interested in kidd and yet here he is, about to get mavs job. sometimes in the nba, the correct connection or two that leads a guy to a certain destination is all it takes.

The part you pasted makes it sound like Langdon got Vaughn on the interview list, which maybe is an accomplishment if the initial decision was to go with who they should have picked last time.

It makes me wonder if Langdon is rising in the organization as Griff falls a bit. If this year goes sideways and Griff gets fired, I don't think they necessarily clean house and can see Zion being comfortable with Langdon going forward.

I get the feeling that Vaughn could be our "fall back" if Lee decides he does not want the job.

Might as well consider it 3 years since they kept a lame duck coach to start the Zion era.

This dude won 26% of his games with the Magic. The fact that he’s even being considered is incredible and tells you everything you need to know about the Pelicans front office.

On Mac's pod yesterday, he said the word is that Griff was humbled a bit by the SVG failure and rather than going it alone on again this hire, he decided to make it more of a committee based approach with Langdon and others. He said that made him feel like Vaughn had more of a shot than if it was only Griff making the call given the relationship between Vaughn and Langdon.

I'm not scared of a Jacque Vaughn hire.

There's just no way he's not a better coach at this point than he was over 6 years ago. He's obviously a personality that Langdon is attracted to and probably vibes schematically with. Has worked with recent huge stars in the game. Was a serious candidate to take over the Nets. Could a Charles Lee be better.... maybe. It's also a maybe riskier hire.

I've been saying Griff is a fraud for 2 years now.
Y'all told me i was stupid, as usual, when i called him a used car salesman.
Then as time has gone by, y'all all start seeing it and now pretty much everyone looks at him as a snake oil salesman.

He is a problem. He isn't a huge problem, yet, but he's a problem, and he better start getting people around him that know what the frick they are doing and have real basketball knowledge, and actually listening to them, or he's going to be a gone pecan soon.
He suffers from the same thing SVG did, his ego is too big.

The FO and coaches being on the same page is huge, especially if you have a FO that wants input into coaching decisions. I'm sure Stan got hired by saying all the right things in the interview and got fired by not living up to the interview. With Vaughn you don't have to worry about the real coach measuring up to the interview because Langdon already knows all about him. It doesn't mean he's the best coach available, but there's definite value in that.
