proven commodity at the nba level

through 2 seasons, he's averaging less than 15 ppg. I beg to differ on the proven part as it relates to being an NBA star. 15 ppg would be zion's absolute freaking floor in the NBA first 2 years. Zion likely would average 18-19 ppg as a freshman. AD averaged 13.5 as a rookie

The hype for Wiggins was pretty big and he has underwhelmed in comparison.

He’s not bad as much as he hasn’t really made a leap from above average to great.

sophomore slumps happen, Tatum's THE reason the ECF went to seven games last year

vs physical specimen dominating 18-22 year olds, most of whom will never play professionally.

i'll take the proven wing with good size, thanks

I remember when Lebron and KD were guys who never played professionally.

You're essentially saying you wouldn't have traded a proven guy like Pau Gasol after 2 seasons in the league for a guy like Lebron who never played professional ball, that's your logic you're presenting in this thread.

the difference is Zion is putting up absurd numbers

per 100

Wiggins was 30/10/3/2/2 w/ 4 TOV and 45/34/78 splits for a 21.4 PER

Zion is 41/17/4.5/4/4 w/ 4.5 TOV and 68/30/66 splits for a 42.1 PER

and i think it is quite easy to argue Zion is the far superior defensive player based on college play

He's averaged 30-31 mpg in his young career. In the playoffs his mpg went up to 36 and he averaged 18.5 ppg as a Rookie on a team that went to the ECF.

ok? I mean that's good numbers. It doesn't prove anything yet that Tatum is some prospect to pass on a guy like Zion who's actual numbers are off the chart when comparing direct.

do you want to go through every top five pick since the lottery was implemented? i'd bet you there are quite a few more flops than future HOF'ers

Wiggins had no where close to Zion's production and efficiency. Wiggins hype was actually pre-college. By the time he was actuallt selected, he got traded for Kevin Love. The hype had lost its shine and many draft evaluations questioned his motor, intelligence, and passion for the game. He was the best athlete since Lebron, but he had holes.

The thing that have so many excited about Zion is that he is a freak athlete, but he has the intangibles (motor/IQ) to go along with the unnatural athleticism.

and if he were the size of a PF and not a SG, he would probably dominate the NBA

but he won't...because he's barely 6'7"

Correct. His hype had worn down significantly by draft time. He went #1 but a lot of people were pretty down on him.

Draymond is barely 6'7". Zion is Draymond +30 lbs of muscle and a 40+" vertical. Why cant he play PF?

i'll give him about the same ceiling, so long as he has other superstars surrounding him

You're comparing college basketball numbers to numbers of a guy who was the best player on a team in the ECF?

Look, I'm not knocking Zion at all, but what Tatum did last year was pretty special, too. If Tatum is on a team where he is the number 1 scoring option, I believe he can put up 20+ ppg efficiently.

Sure, but that doesn't mean you blindly should ALWAYS want a guy with 2 year's experience over a guy with no experience which is essentially exactly what you said.

And 285lbs. Name all the bigs that are going to out muscle him inside.

He'll come into the league and immediate be able to bully any player in the NBA with his strength.

He is a very rare prospect, but you're making it out to be like he's just another guy.

So he's Draymond's height with 40 extra lbs of muscle with more athleticism than Blake Griffin but you give him the same ceiling as Draymond?

Alright then...

This happens with nearly every #1 prospect.

Once they are at the #1 spot, here come the people that pick apart their games. Which is okay, that’s their jobs.

Zion is an athletic freak who will only benefit from NBA development and fitness program.

As long as the franchise that has him doesn’t frick it up.
