what are you talking about? We signed CJ to long term extension in his 30s. BI is a free agent in 2 years. Griffin and Willie need to win and make playoffs these next two years. If not they’re gone. They’re basically going in for two years to see how far this core goes. Dyson’s development will not play into that. Contending for many years??? Lol how long have you been a pelicans fan???
Clearly you are beyond help and should take a break on here.

Its all part of the gameplan for this genius coaching staff according to some of these posters lol

Lol I should take a break??
You are literally arguing that the gameplan is for Zion to look like dogshit in a competitive basketball game lol

Again, we're reading into 30 minutes of basketball way too much.
It's a build up. We should see progression and effort. It doesn't make sense to ever take games off or play half hearted. It breeds bad habits and players are just as likely to get hurt.
I'm concerned and I have very low expectations. Getting blasted by the Rockets, with our big 3 playing, just shouldn't happen. Preseason or not..

Thank you for a reasonable logical take. This is exactly why we should be concerned.

And this was the plan last game. For our SHOOTERS. The plan wasn’t for Zion to sit in the paint and take 20 shots.
The plan was to run plays, space, pass the ball around, and let our shooters progress. Exactly like Dyson and Hawkins did last game…. All like it was part of the plan.

We all know what Zion, CJ, Bi can do. What we need to find out is how Dyson, Hawkins, and Herb can improve. Last game was a game to get them involved/ in rhythm while not risking injury. If BI had a better game people wouldn’t be bitching.
We also don’t have our 2 main hustle guys (Jose/ Nance) and Trey.
Y’all need to calm down

Zion's effort in game 1 was pretty good. He fought hard for rebounds like we need him to. He had some bad defensive moments, but those looked more like fatigue plays than just not trying like he looked last night.
I think Fun Bunch is right in this is probably a good thing to happen now because the low effort was bad, even for preseason. It will give the coaches plenty to talk about with the players.

“The plan wasn’t for Zion to sit in the paint and take 20 shots.”
- was the plan for him to take one shot in the half as well?? In a new offense with starters not getting any minutes together last season- shouldn’t plan be to build chemistry and learn the new offense. Instead we’re prioritizing two guys who will have limited minutes? You don’t see a problem in this?

YES. I said this at least 10 times

I forgot the part where the best way to build chemistry on a new offense is to feed 1 player in the paint all game.
Wouldn’t the best way to build chemistry be for the guy who is already gonna get the ball in the paint 20 times to pass and set up everyone else?

I mean, Zion only played 15 minutes in the first game, and there were plays on defense where he intentionally didn’t move. Literally just stood still while his guy ran around. I do think he was tired, but that was not a great example of effort to contradict game two.

Do you honestly think that if he WANTED to or if the team WANTED him to that ZION WASN’T capable of taking more shots last night vs Sengun?
Think about this question and then realize what’s the most logical explanation for last night.

I still stand by this if our staff is actually competent.
Willie's quote in the OP is still blowing my fricking mind though.
Does BI just hate Point Z THAT much? That even running sets for Z puts him into a tizzy?

I’m not going to read into any of that until the season starts. It could just as easily be misinformation.
We also hired Borrego in June and haven’t had some players available. So there is a possibility they have been working on the entire offensive flow and are trying to get everyone on the same page with a new system.
That way everyone is on the same page and then they can work on individual set plays.
It’s hard to work on individual set plays when every single player is still learning a new offense and pace.

I’d take the comment more as:
“We are installing an entire new offense and guys are still learning that offense to gain chemistry” “we have individual plays drawn up but they can not all be implemented until everyone is on the same page”.

BI has had a rough summer especially with Team USA. I think part of the problem is BI still thinks hes the best player on this team when hes clearly not. I think this coaching staff also wants BI to be the best player on this team as well. Large part due to his demeanor, relationships with coaches. The best version of this team was point Zion and when the offense went through him. If we keep trying to force the offense through BI this team will struggle. I honestly think there’s a minor power dynamic between the two and until BI concedes to Zion when both are healthy this team will struggle.

Every play should be Zion going through the paint with the ball full head of steam, whether that’s him running point or feeding him off a screen at the top of the key, plain and simple. I don’t understand what the confusion is and continues to be with this clown.
Posted on 10/13/23 at 11:39 am to Dantheman504
Do you honestly think ZION wanted himself to look like dogshit in any competitive game? Do you think in any shape or form he is ok with this? Do you think this in any way helps his brand and he WANTS to do this?
Think about this question and then realize that the only logical explanation is either coaching staff has no idea what they’re doing OR the players aren’t following gameplan and dont care.
