There's lots of risk involved in waiting for 2016, though. If your plan is to go big that summer, you can't sign any longterm contracts from here on out. All contracts have to expire alongside Gordon's. So no four year MLE SF this summer, etc.

We would have a hard time making noise in the playoffs with no SF or C for the next two years. Then you get to summer of 2016, and what if you can't convince any stars to come play alongside Davis? The guys you are chasing are probably looking to play in NY, LA, like the big named guys tend to do. Then you feel like you have wasted two years of AD's talent and the franchise's chances of competing for a title.

I'll be the first to admit, I've thrown out a lot of misinformation. Usually because I'm frustrated the front office hasn't done enough. But that was a quality post. I still think they ought to fire Monty but I guess it's whatever AD wants to do. If he likes the setup than so be it.

The number of people who fail to recognize this truly is amazing. Even actual radio personalities who "pride themselves" on their sports knowledge. For example, check out this twitter "debate" I had with a friend of a friend about a month ago. It's almost comical. Deveney's column about how Kyrie almost certainly isn't going anywhere - in a situation with actual tension - seemed to end the discussion.

I mean, it is Savannah, GA sports radio. Who knows what they let on the air there.

The only way a superstar/big-named player is going to get out of a shite hole is to force his way out.

Issue is, no manager/agent will tell his young player to do that on their rookie contract because of plain fear of public backlash.

They have a brand they can keep for a decade if they continue to improve and make a bigger name for themselves, having a negative opinion of that caliber and you're that young is not a great idea. At least 'melo, CP3, and lebron all waited

Wall of Text

I don't think you understand what this means. A wall of text lacks the separation of paragraphs and typically lacks proper punctuation. Neither of those are true about TigerinATL's post.

It took me all of about 2 minutes to read the entire post; and it actually explained the situation about as succinctly as it can be stated.

Demps has only gone short term one year, the year that there was so little interest in being a Hornet that we were excited when Belinelli resigned and when we overpaid Carl Landry. On top of that, 2016 doesn't look that great outside of Durant, although it is a bit early. LINK / I guess you could end up with Batum and Noah, and 2 year contracts are becoming more common, but still, paying to dump Gordon and aiming at 2015 still looks like the better plan.

Targeting 2015 is the best option we have. But if we aren't able to move Gordon before the 2015 offseason, we better not pick up longterm contracts on the wayside.

It's a good idea to keep multiple doors open. Always have a viable plan B. If we sign too many lower to mid tier players on extended contracts, we lose flexibility down the road.

If we are forced to keep Gordon until his contract expires, inking a four year MLE contract this summer results in a huge loss of flexibility. With a four year MLE contract, Rivers, and our 2015 1st rounder's salary all on the books, plus the minimum roster holds, we easily lose the ability to chase high dollar players in 2016.

As much as I want to move Gordon (and I do think it should be our primary focus) there are still ways to find positives about the alternatives. Moving Gordon isn't a given. It's a need, but we could possibly be stuck with him for another two years.

If he expires in 2016 alongside Ryno, we own their Bird rights. We can sign a free agent, then tack on Ryno's new salary and Gordon's $5 million/year to slide over the cap.

Gordon at $5-6 million could then act as a trading chip.

TL; still read because I guess I'm the "casual" Pels fan.

I'm worried about the chemistry of this team going forward. Obviously, like you said, Gordon has to go.

I think we need to build with a couple of players in the draft rather than continuing to sign FA's. I think Davis would gel better with the team that way.

the draft building portion of the rebuild is over. our team isn't bad enough to be picking early anymore unless multiple significant injuries occur with Anthony Davis missing significant time. Our only avenue is FA or trades for the foreseeable future
