Ankle injury. Hope he's back after the break. I haven't heard an update in awhile.

When Joel/AD were talking to Griff they basically said he is practicing and slotted to return after the all star break

Let's be honest. Zion unlocks everything. This team is built to play around Zion. We are in the same conundrum we were in past seasons. It's hard to properly evaluate what you "need" because the team is hella different when he plays. Not only are we missing the raw, automatic 25+ points he gets every night, his gravity increases efficiency. Want easier shots for BI, CJ and Trey? We need Zions gravity.

Offense offense offense .

I know that is the hot Pels Twitter topic but we lost the game last night in the 1st quarter bc we didn’t defend at all . You are then forced to scratch and claw every possession to catch back up until you run out of gas . Which is what happened last night .

Now on offense the .5 has disappeared . It’s dribble dribble dribble shot . A lot of that is caused by 2 guys being unguarded on every possession . The solution cannot just be play Trey more as last night should make very clear . He’s consistently inconsistent on defense and can’t be the 3rd best offensive player .

I agree that he unlocks things, but I wouldn't exactly say the team is built to play around him.

If I was constructing an ideal roster for Zion it would be a bigger on/off guard at the top, ala Cunningham or Haliburton, two lengthy 3 and D wings, heavy emphasis on the 3, ideally one that can get their own shot(so BI works here, albeit a bit too iso/mid range focused), and a switchable, strong rebounding rim protector at the 5. If they can hit the occasional 3, perfect! Think Al Horford, Brook Lopez, Ayton, Bam, Sabonis, Draymond.

We have a funhouse mirror version of that.

Naji’s three week run was a fluke and his bbiq is piss poor.

To be fair to Naji, I would say his play right now is the bigger fluke, at least offensively percentages wise. He was on that run prior to missing those three games, and since returning he's shooting 38.6% from the field and 23.1% from three. He shot 43% from the field and 33% from three during those three weeks, and he shot 44% from the field and 33% from three prior to that.

I expect him to get back to 42ish% and 32-34ish%, which is closer to his career average.

This is why I’m hopeful .

This break will give some much needed rest but also give us some time to get some practice in which we desperately need to work out some of the issues .

Rest for sure. Not sure teams practice much during the break.

The guys going to do All Star stuff will be gone, and usually the other dudes go on vacation or something.

Great outline on players. I’m tired of the argument that we don’t know what we need. We have decades of basketball history. We know how we should build around Zion. The formula is there, but we don’t have it executed.

And furthermore it doesn’t matter if the team is good on offense while he’s there. He’s going to miss 20-30 games a year. The offense can’t disappear without him. It’s on coaching because there’s no way this team should be so bad on offense. We’re like bottom 10 in league without Zion.

Honestly, I love JRich, always have, but we needed to make the trade for Beasley and Vanderbilt. Beasley is a scorer that we needed to add, and Vanderbilt is a defensive playmaker we need. Those 2 bring energy every night, which we lack on most nights.

I would have rathered that trade myself.

In Finch’s defense, the Minny front office is abysmally stupid and handcuffed him by sending out most of his depth and all of their picks for Gobert.

Yes, we wanted Beasley and Vanderbilt. Yes, we had picks that Utah could have gotten for them.

Problem is that Utah apparently wanted out from Conley’s salary too and we weren’t in a position to do that.

This could have still happened with them taking Russel from Minny as he’s an expiring also….

Looking at the moves the Pels did make, they aren’t ready to pay the tax. Beasley makes $16 next season. I think that was probably the stumbling block.

It’s a team option, they could’ve declined it if they wanted to, or if they’re ready to go into the tax they could’ve picked it up.
