Asik has been playing well
No doubt.

think he WOULD play more minutes right now if two of QPon, Reke, and Gordon were healthy
Fair point. Not sure if Gentry would play him much more, but he would fit better w/o Cole/Gee.
Same time, Asik and Anderson dont really fit together. So you've backed yourself into either moving the better player or locking into a 3 man big rotation that doesn't work for another 3/4 years.

That 5mil/yr for AA is purely a contract number to even things out in future trade as the cap hikes
Sure and that makes some sense. But if AA is admittedly trade filler, you don't sign him for 4 years. No one is taking on a 28 yo 4th/5th big with 3/$15 left. Thats a salary dump you attach to an asset. Signing trade filler for a potential move 2-3 years down the line reeks of outsmarting yourself.
Same thing with Asik. Hes been better lately, but he's 29, has had some injury issues the past 3 years, and is seeing his utility decrease. Maybe they find an Anderson replacement that is more mobile and can play better with Asik. Maybe we see some absurd deals that make these look better, but,for me, it's more bringing back both guys, given their skills and fit, and the years than the $ itself.
IMO, the contract length and player value for these 2 guys make them very difficult to trade for at least a couple of years, if not as expirings.

I would prefer to pay Ryno whatever it takes over any of those trades.

Chad Ford, ESPN Insider: The Toronto Raptors. They sit just two games behind the Cavs in the East and are a power forward away from really giving them a scare. The Raptors have a valuable 2016 lottery pick -- the lesser of the Nuggets' and Knicks' first-round picks -- to offer teams. If that can land them an upgrade over Luis Scola and Patrick Patterson, they need to bite.
If this is possibly on the table, we really need to look into it.

If we get Kris Humphries can we pickup a lower tier Kardashian sister too? I'd take Kylie or Khloe.

Yeah. I've seen Toronto bloggers say they don't think they'd trade a 1st for a rental, but with as wide open as the East is and as high as the team's expectations are (becoming Lakers East), they have to be willing to go pretty far to increase their odds at making the ECF. They also have always been a potential Ryno destination because they don't have any better options at PF, so them resigning him to play starters minutes isn't crazy.

Stein just tweeted Orlando is listening to offers for Harris. Most likely would have to be a 3 team deal because we really don't have anything to offer them that they would want.

Nate Duncan trade deadline pod part 2 had Anderson to Toronto for their own 2016 1st, 2017 2nd, Scola, Nogueria, Bennett. Not an awful deal for the Pels, Nogueria might be useful down the line.
With Derozan being UFA, I don't see them giving up a likely lottery pick to get Anderson, also an UFA.

I'm fine with their own 1st. I don't know much about Nogueria, but I like getting a mid 1st round 7 foot center on a rookie contract. We need to hit on a young big like that so the team feels comfortable dumping Asik for nothing or even paying a little to move him when we need the cap space. Top 6 Pels pick + Nogueira + a wing like Taurean Prince with the Raptors pick, 2 years from now you hopefully have 2 20-25 MPG rotation players and a starter or better on rookie contracts instead of Asik, Gordon/Tyreke, QPon/GapingHoleatSF.

If this team was pretty competitive right now, I would have loved to get my hands on Tobias Harris.
Now I kind of think "What's the point?"
I really just want to get rid of as many contracts as possible, acquire picks and players on rookie deals, and get as much of a blank slate (besides AD and possibly Jrue) for a new GM as possible.

Another reason Toronto makes sense for Ryno, they won't have any functional cap space if they bring back DeRozan. Trading for Ryno would give them Bird Rights, otherwise they're looking at the same team they have now plus the MLE. It's the situation we were in when we traded for Asik. It was the only way we could add a player of that caliber. They don't have to trade for Ryno, but they need to trade for someone if they want to upgrade their talent level and keep on an upward trajectory.

And I'm not sure how much good 1st round draft picks do that team anyway. If its NYK's pick its around 12 and that player wouldn't get any play on that team. Ryno would be a great addition for them.

quote:If they do it by sending us Patrick Patterson and the pick, then Bismack and Demar opt out, the cap holds for Bismack, Demar and Ryno are so small, they'll be below $85 million before resigning them all over the cap. They need to have some serious talks with agents.

First, the cap is projected to be $89-$90 million. Having a cap figure of $85 million with the cap holds in place would give you $4-$5 million in cap space which is smaller the MLE so you'd be better off using the MLE which is $5.6 million.
Second, you have to be off in your calculations. The cap hold for guys like DeRozan and Ryno will be 150% of what they made in their last year, so a $15 million cap hold for DeRozan and a $12.75 cap hold for Ryno. Biyombo I believe would have a 190% cap hold so that's $5.5 million. Even taking Patterson off the roster they're about $7-$8 million over the cap with Ryno's cap hold in place. Cap hold rules LINK
