We anticipated a logjam with Jose/Dyson/Hawk/Trey/Naji behind CJ/BI/Herb

And the only big we have to back up Jonas is Zeller.

Naji subs in for Zion and even then, only got 13 minutes because Zion only played 28 minute. It's Trey and BI elevated minutes that took up all the available minutes at the 2/3.

I think any coach sometimes has his reasons in certain situations that we aren’t aware of. If we win, drop the
mike, as far as I’m concerned.

I think we are aware, it's his defense and the fact that he has by far the worst Net Rating on the team.

We have a winning record, plus point differential, and Hawkins is a -18 net rating, which is wild. We're getting demolished when he's on the court and we're demolishing teams when he's off the court, that's why he didn't play last night.

He still deserves regular season minutes, it's the only way to develop. But we decided this tournament game matters more than a regular season game, and he doesn't deserve minutes in a game we've determined is critical.

Hawk has a bright future with the team, and the injuries to Trey, CJ, and Jose meant that Hawk got a lot of minutes early in the season, as we needed shooting and the guard rotation was short.

But, y'all, his defense is really bad right now. That's normal for a rookie, and he'll get a lot better, but he's too much of a defensive liability to be a part of our "playoff rotation" right now.

Once the in-season tournament is over, though, I expect him to get regular minutes. I'm sure that Willie wants him to be part of the playoff rotation for the actual playoffs.

Rotations have been an absolute joke. When Naji was the 1st off the bench I knew Willie went off the rails. Going to be a long night.

The small sample size overreactions were strong early last night.

Our starting lineup was horrible defensively and got exploited pretty bad. Going to a 3 wing lineup the majority of the time changed that game.

Naji is first off bc he replaces Zion as the aggressive basket attack presence. It makes sense with how we want to rotate BI and Zion minutes to always have one on the floor.

BI definitely played more than normal, and when he's on like that, then you keep playing him.
Trey played all his minutes at the 4 and 5, so i don't think he affected Hawkins minutes.

Herb played awesome on both sides of the court, and his 35 minutes were warranted.

CJ played 36, which seems like more than it felt watchign the game, but almost everytime you heard the crowd getting loud and changting DEFENSE, CJ hit the shot to silence them.

Jose played amazing, and deserved all 18 minutes he got.

Naji only played 13, and was awesome for about 11 of them.
Dyson was great in just the 6 minutes he played.

They all played great in the minutes they were given.

I'd say in a different setting, 1 or 2 of them isn't playing as good and Hawkins is given his chance.
Maybe Herb is being targeted offensively and he just isn't doing well hitting shots or finishing at the rim. That's where Hawkins can change that script.
Maybe Jose/Naji are being wreckless with their energy and also not hitting shots. But that didn't happen last night.

I think he will find minutes that way, as well as maybe having CJ/BI/Herb all playing just a few minutes less. Hell if each just play 3 less minutes, that's almost 10 minutes for Hawkins.

I don't think that's accurate. I saw him matched up with Monk and Huerter in multiple occasions in the half court. He was definitely playing some wing.

Thats not what that means at all.
It’s called switching every pick on defense and picking up whoever is closest in transition.

62 of the 96 minutes at the 4 and 5 were played by JV, Zion, Zeller.
That leaves 34 minutes to be played at the 4 and 5, and Trey played all 30 of his at the 4 and 5.

It wasn't a switch and it was in the half court.

I stopped checking twitter maybe 4 ish months ago. Was mainly on there for Pelicans related stuff. I got to where I hated to see that dude posts. You can just tell he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room at all times. I loved when Perk got on Spaces and Shamit rambled off some dumb 5 minute long question and everybody in there including Perk was like dude wtf are you talking about, was there a question in there somewhere? The Pelicans media/beat writers are as a whole so dang bad, it's kind of a shame.
