When do we start having the conversation about trading Zion?

I think four years is a pretty fair sample size to project what we can expect for the rest of his career. I honestly feel like the latest injury is the most telling of the 4 years. If a simple hamstring injury sidelines him for three months, his ability to heal is just miserable.

When do we start having a realistic conversation about with the team could look like with assets acquired from his trade rights? I just feel like everyone already knows in their gut that this guy is never going to be healthy enough to push this team to major success. But we sure as hell could a acquire a lot of assets if we admit the inevitable early on.

Tbh I think we missed the best window to trade him. The best time was probably after his 2nd season or sometime while he was healthy this season. We could’ve gotten any package we wanted 2 years ago. Probably Something like Haliburton plus other assets. Or Anthony Edwards, plus other assets. Jalen Green, Sengun, plus picks. Etc.

Now we would probably be looking at Giddey and picks or Jalen Williams and picks or another guy who is injured and has a murky future like Cade Cunningham.

For fun…would you have take Cade & Detroit’s first this season (and future 1sts) for Zion at trade deadline.

The franchise must make a lot of money off his name. His name in mentioned if he is playing or not. That’s a tough decision to trade him. Just imagine if they trade him and becomes a MVP candidate or wins a ring. Hopefully he turns it around here

I agree with this. I am a fan of Zion and also thought we should have considered offers last year. The writing was clear to see…..now I think you have to hope he plays 75% of the year next season.

Some of us have been talking about it since we acquired him. The talk always ramps up going into the offseasons. Always tons of trade ideas. Here is one from last spring LINK /

That would have us sending Zion, Nance and Temple to the Knicks for Randle, Quickley, 4 1sts and 2 swaps.

We would be a top 4 seed in the West with that deal this year.

So you guys watched this team go from 1st in the west to 10th without Zion, and your reaction is to try and make that a permanent thing?

Well, if he is not available to help the team, it's best the team figure out how to actually play "TEAM" ball.

100% get it, but at what point is a potential superstar that's is in street cloths most of the time not the guy to build your team around or even count on for quality minutes.
If he's that much of a difference maker on the W-L but can't stay healthy what do you have?

Even if he's healthy 25% of the time(1 season out of 4) that 1 season is over much higher chance for us to do real winning than if we trade him.

So we should not trade him.

One healthy season with Zion has the potential to bring NOLA a title. A team like the Pelicans cannot afford to trade someone like that.

Next year is make or break.

He has to be healthy, and we have to be good.

It is but even if he isn't healthy, there aren't many avenues to trade him and have a better chance to win.

It's basically make O break for our hope and chances to win with this group but if it goes south it's basically rebuild time, not trade Zion and try to win a title time.

This

We now know what we have without Zion over the past 2 years, and it's a team that is nowhere near a .500 ball club.

If Zion plays 30 games or less again next season, he won't have enough trade value to get anything of note in a return, so we'd be getting a meh return to add to a bad team, what's the point of that?

As annoying as it is, it makes more sense to hope you get 1 more healthy season out of Zion like we got before as opposed to trading him for scraps to an already bad team.

when?
after he's played and got a 27 7 4.5 run of a few games so gms bank on his game being approximately
27 7 4.5 at which point you get a starter and a couple 1s and a swap.
I'm ok with moving him but only when his apparent value is top 15 in nba.

I move him before his next injury. I said identical idea a year or two ago.
as TDGM I'm not betting he can play a whole season.
let someone else hope and pray. so for the reality now, zion plays a bit to end season. pels currently at 37 losses same as 5 other teams and gsw in 6th at 36L. the team without zion has ingram back and may get 6, 7 or 8 playoff spot or out.
we shall see.
6th would be sweet.
looks like gsw will get 5th and clips shall soon fall into the pit of despair.

Why would you trade a guy giving you an efficient 27/7/4.5 for a starter and couple of 1sts?

If he STILL Cannot be healthy and reliable in year 5, sometimes its just better to just move on, sink to the bottom again and start over.

If he is fat or injured AGAIN, you can't shuffle it out there for year 6.

Not sure I totally agree, but I do agree on the 1st part.

I could be wrong but I think many are thinking we're good enough and could get a haul for him at that point and still compete. If you're advocating to trade Zion after another injury filled season next season, then we should be thinking rebuild for sure.

Id' 100% lose hope, but I'd still think our best chance is to try and just get 1 healthy Zion season out of 4 again and go with that.

I just think if he's fat or injured AGAIN...there won't be a choice.

He will want to move on to get a fresh start, the media will be clamoring more than usual, and it will just be a broken situation.

If we are trading Zion at that point, we aren't getting a star back. We are getting salary ballast and likely some bad initial picks with a pick or two far out, to a decent team.

CJ won't want to be here for that, nor will BI.

It'll be full on rebuild. Again.

A friend of mine bought a top-of-the-line Mercedes Benz and his family went around bragging about what they had...weird thing though, it stayed parked in the garage.
After a few years of remaining intact in the garage, it was apparent that the Benz was just there as a "feel-good" thing. But why would they continue owning something so great but never actually getting its' intended from it?
