Are we in or out with him?
Bledsoe and Hayes trade?

Why is he just towel waving on the bench?

Kira was also a DNP, but I get what you're saying. Jaxon hasn't played much at all except for when Adams was hurt.

I doubt we're done with him. I just think that we're trying to win.

Because Hernangomez has been playing incredible behind Adams. He is playing good defense, rebounding incredibly, and finishing around the rim. Jaxon Hayes does none of those things.

Hayes is a bust to this point considering he was picked #8. I wish we would have just taken Deandre Hunter #4. We’d have Lonzo, ingram, Hunter, Zion, Adams* potentially.

Hopefully out.

Never made sense that we took him so high to begin with. Everyone knew then that he was a huge project that needed a lot of things to go right just for him to be a serviceable big.

There was always a much bigger chance that he busted than panned out.

Or at least not picking someone safer with the pick instead of a lottery project.

Wasn't the trade back to Atlanta a way to get rid of Solomon Hill? Seems like a lot of poeple want to overlook that. Jaxson has time to gain weight and work on his midrange and have a better mentality/work ethic going into next year. He just needs to mature mentally and physically.

Oh please. Getting rid of Solomon hill was not a priority when we weren’t going to compete anytime soon anyways. Justifying the trade over hill is absolutely ridiculous. There was multiple solid players available at 4 and instead we got two major busts that are unplayable. Ridiculous take.

Jaxson was a 100% upside pick. When you are a shite team, you take those kind of chances. No one questions his athletic ability, but holy shite, he just sucks at basketball.

Did you think this at the time? Or are you just posting in hindsight now trying to make it seem like you’re some kind of genius?

I don’t necessarily believe trading the pick for 8 and 17 was a bad move, especially when there was thought to be a consensus drop after 1-2 and an even bigger drop after 3. Hunter was a safe pick, but seemingly low ceiling. Would you rather Hunter, or Herro/PJ Washington and Brandon Clarke/Mattis Thybulle? The picks couldve made the trade better, so I wouldnt necessarily say the trade was bad, only the picks. Doing this we also got rid of the Hill contract, which I agree isnt as important as some people said at the time, but it’s still a plus

We also couldve gotten Talen Horton Tucker, Jalen McDaniels, or Eric Paschall with the Didi pick, but drafting in the second round is not easy

I have no issue with the pick. He hasnt panned out yet, may not ever, but he has the rare potential to be an athletic 5 that can run the floor, guard multiple positions, and have an effective shot to finish games.

Rumors are he isnt in love with basketball. If that is true, he will likely never develop. If it is just an immaturity issue, he could still turn into a top 5 C.

It's not ridiculous, though. Dumping Hill was an absolute part of the trade calculus. We didn't just dump him, we got the picks in return, but there was value in dumping Hill.

I have a hard time calling NAW a bust. He's a guy who has shown flashes playing a bit out of position in his second year in the league. He was a mid-first rounder. Hayes is approaching bust, but it's not like he was drafted in the top 5. Let's take a look at 8 picks going back in time:

Hayes
Collin Sexton
Frank Ntilikina
Marquese Chriss
Stanley Johnson
Nik Stauskas
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Terrence Ross
Brandon Knight
Al-Farouq Aminu
Jordan Hill
Joe Alexander
Brandan Wright
Rudy Gay
Channing Frye
Rafael Arauho
T.J. Ford
Chris Wilcox
DeSagana Diop
Jamal Crawford
Andre Miller
Larry Hughes
Adonal Foyle
Kerry Kittles
Shawn Respert
Brian Grant
Vin Baker
Todd Day
Mark Macon
Bo Kimble

What I'm getting at is that you can't even really call Hayes a bust. If you look at that list, Hayes is kind of Par for the slot.

He’s not playing because he isn’t very good.

We had just picked Zion. There was no reason to go upside with that pick. Especially after trading out of it.

Not to mention if you were going upside going with a guy like Cam Reddish would have made more sense.

Need to find a team that still sees his upside and sell on him now before he becomes cancerous. He's at least still trying to involved on the bench but from what I've read about his approach to the game he's not going to succeed here.

Hernangomez has certainly been playing much better than Hayes ever has. However, he defense is spotty at best. His finishing at the rim is OK, but for some reason has no hops. How many dunks and putbacks has he missed? However, for a backup, he is giving productive minutes.

He's the Pelicans "basically anyone drafted in the top 10 that's an athletic project big, not drafted #1 overall" bust.

He isn't very good and honestly I don't know if he really cares or not. He hasn't made any real progression whatsoever since last season. He makes tons of mental mistakes and hasn't expanded his game at all. That comes down to just putting in the work. It appears he hasn't.
