re: What Will Happen This Offseason?

I'm fine with a 2+1 around $80M. Someone would have to give him a 4 year max to beat that, and who would do that? The only teams possible are the Lakers and the Mavs, and i just can't see the Lakers doing that even if they strike out this offseason, and i still find it hilarious that the Mavs would have any interest in Cousins after dealing with Mathews and the fact that Carlisle's head would explode having to deal with him.
So unless Cousins wants a S&T to someone like Washington, i just don't see how he doesn't resign with us.

While I’d absolutely hate for the Pelicans to lose E’Twaun Moore, he is coming off a career season and has nice value. I could easily see the Philadelphia 76ers giving up pick No. 26 overall in the first round for Moore. New Orleans would get a first-round selection and clear almost $9 million.
If that is a possibility, i'd jump all over that, especially if your resigning Cousins. Look at next year as a rebuilding year sort of. This would also be very easy to do if you knew what you had with Frank Jackson.
And Ajinca needs to be net us somethign in return, not just given away for no return like Qpon. Getting Holiday, although i'd rather Valentine, is what this team needs, young contributors on cheap contracts.
I'd love to get Temple, and i'm sure he'd love to come back home. Still a good defender and shoots near 40% from 3. No way he opts out of his player option for next year considering he's overpaid and will not get a contract like that again.

Leaks before something happens are almost always posturing by one of the parties involved. Who benefits from making Cousins seem like a hot commodity? Certainly not the Mavs or Lakers. The more he costs the more risk they take on. Boogie and maybe a team that would have to do a S&T for him are the only parties that benefit from him seeming in higher demand than the Pels were expecting.

I would expect Temple and Wes Matthews to both get bought out if they aren't traded to a good situation this year. Demps should keep that in the back of my mind as potential late season replacements for anyone that needs to be traded away.

Yeah, that's the thing about free agency... you never know where the information is coming from and the vast majority of the time it's coming from people with ulterior motives. These leaks are coming from agents and teams trying to manipulate. Totally false information is purposely leaked out all the time by agents.

#1 is probably the most likely scenario, especially after realizing the difficulty in the sign and trade scenario.
Supposedly Woj was on ESPN's NBA draft countdown show last night and had this to say:
quote:
Woj: Six months ago, DeMarcus Cousins was a max contract candidate and now New Orleans is looking to bring him back on a short-term deal to evaluate post-Achilles injury performance.
quote:
Woj: Don't discount the potential for sign-and-trade opportunities for Cousins.
These were tweets from a Blazers guy. Supposedly Woj also said AD wants Cousins here.

I kinda really like the idea of trading Moore to Philly for a late first, then getting rid of Ajinca and a 2nd for salary space, and having $20M in cap space to sign someone, assuming no Cousins here.
Assuming this could happen, and we had $20M in cap space, could we get Paul George in a S&T if we gave OKC Solo and a 1st?

I hope/think #1 happens.
I pray #4 happens.
But if not #3 is the next best. (#5 isn't gonna happen imo so I'm not considering it)

Moore helped us a lot this past season. So, there’s that.

4) #1 Plus Demps makes an offseason trade like Hill/Ajinca/1st for DeMarre Carroll
History tells us Demps will force Boogie to find out how much he is worth on the open market; then we match or throw a little on top.
Demps has also shown an ability to pull off trades very similar to the deal above.

dallas will offer boogie a max deal
They may well offer him, but I don't see it as a sure thing. They invested in a torn Achilles once in Wesley Matthews and have actively tried to get out of that deal

Good read on Boogie
Am I allowed to say I agree because I answered a ton of questions for Fletch before he wrote this?
But, yeah, he did a good job on an overview of how different paths might look.

5) Not enough to overcome CC and GSW.
Oh well

Cousins resigns, LeBron signs. Golden State gets swept.

GS and their super team are going to cause even more cap problems once they either sweep or G sweep. We needed this series to go 6-7 games.

It’s also going to push LeBron out of Cleveland and probably West. How can he stay and think he has a chance? A 3 star team in LA or Houston would give him a much better chance at a ring.
Posted on 6/7/18 at 6:14 am to TigerinATL
And who is this third star in LA?
Houston can’t give Paul a Max deal and get LeBron

Cousins amd Rondo sign elsewhere. Pels targets Lin and Ariza.

- Get Paul George to opt in, he loses money now but he makes it up in a year when his next contract is based on 35% instead of 30%, plus he's still going to the Lakers but with better teammates.
- Trade Lonzo and Deng to a team with cap space for picks. Trade picks to OKC for George.
That gives the Lakers $55 million in cap space with a bunch of guys on rookie deals that are probably easy enough to cut, and guys like Randle ($8.3 million cap hold), Ingram and Kuzma that could be kept or used in S&Ts. I think the easiest thing is to let Randle walk and ask CP3 and LeBron to split $63 million. Yes $31.5 million is a small pay cut for them, but it's near max and gives you a core of
CP3
PG-13
Ingram
Kuzma
LeBron
Or maybe you don't get CP3 but S&T Randle for Boogie. A S&T like that lets the Lakers use cap space to add a few more veteran role players too.

I'd definitely be pushing for Kuzma too in any Boogie S&T to the Lakers.
