The best thing for DQ long term is a Chet, Mobley, Jaren Jackson, Porzingis type of player (yes the rare stretch big who can rim protect).
But if DQ develops the outside shot then a rim running rim protecter would suffice.

He would have to develop a good bit of physicality for it to work on the defensive end. He's too finesse coming off of last season for a center.

Queen is short for a center. I would think most centers are taller than 6-9 these days, with a couple notable exceptions such as Bam

The ideal thing would be to move Zion, and have a rim protector center next to queen, and some floor spacers at the 2 and 3

Bam, Duren, Green, Vuvecic, Robert Williams, Isaiah Stewart, and Wendell Carter to name a few.
All those guys are stronger and more physical at the point of attack. It can work but it requires Queen to find some nastiness that he doesn't have on the defensive side right now. Maybe Mosley can help him find it. But it's a big WIP.

This is the Zion problem all over again. It takes absolutely perfect roster construction to cover his weaknesses which means you probably shouldn’t be building around him in the first place

It MIGHT end up being the Zion problem all over again. But the biggest problems with Zion are that he is constantly injured and in 7 years in the NBA he never felt the need to expand his skill set to include things like taking outside shots or putting in effort on defense. DQ can be completely different if he dedicates himself to the game.

If you can't build around Queen, then his abilities are stunted. He just becomes Jahlil Okafor. He has too much talent for that.

And that’s exactly my outlook on Queen. I think he’s extremely talented on offense but his defensive issues are not fixable. He’s too short and too slow, that’s not a skill or fitness issue. He’ll be better than Oakfor but I don’t see how anybody can watch the playoffs these past few years and think Queen can be a positive player in the playoffs.

First of all, height is such a meaningless thing to look at. Wingspan and standing reach say a lot more about a player than just his height.
DQ standing reach: 9'1"
Bam standing reach: 9'0"
Jarrett Allen standing reach: 9'2"
Your weight has a lot more to do with being a 5 that can defend than your height, imo. Doesn't matter if you have a 9'3" standing reach if you weight 215lbs........Jaxson Hayes.
DQ weighs 248lbs
Bam weighs 242lbs
Allen weighs 233lbs
Doesn't matter how tall you are, Chet and his 9'6" standing reach, you aren't doing a damn thing to slow down Jokic and Embiid if you only weight 210lbs.
The closer you let someone get to the rim, b/c you aren't heavy/strong enough to stop them from backing you down, the easier it will be for them to score on you.
Let me post this one more time for everyone to see again.
Fears/Herb/Bey/Trey/DQ had a +11 NetRtg and a 107 DRtg, which would be the 2nd best DRtg in the league.
DQ is not a bad defender. Our team is a bad defensive team more often than not. DQ is not some guy who can anchor a defense and make them better, like your better defensive 5s in the league, but that doesn't mean he is a bad defender. All of his isolation defensive stats say he's actually a really good defender, both on the perimeter and on post ups. It's his PnR stats that were not good, and that's a pretty important thing to be good at it if you want to be a good defender, but defending the PnR has a lot more to do with the defensive scheme more often than not. Missi was actually a lot worse than DQ in the PnR, and that doesn't make sense at all, but it's b/c we are just a terrible defensive team from a strategy standpoint. Hopefully that starts to change this year, and also we get the lazy fatass out of here so we can play better team defense b/c Zion is the root of pretty much every problem this team has.
DQ has the potential defensively of someone like Al Horford. Not a guy who's going to jump out the gym contesting shots at the rim, and not a guy who is super quick, but someone who is quick enough to defend well enough when he switches onto someone on the perimeter, and big enough to hold his ground in the post. You surround him with good defenders and a good defensive plan, and he's going to be a good defender, just like Horford has been.

Splitting hairs, but Duren, Vucevic and Carter are listed at 6-10. Vucevic sucks and is a defensive liability. I know Green sometimes guards centers, but he was always paired with a true center in the GS heyday.

Defense is more of a team effort than individually imo. It’s all about switching and when to double. Most of the guys who are defensive players got cooked on iso. If Queen puts effort into the defensive side and know his assignment, he should be okay.

Vuvecic got old and you're basing your opinions of his defense on what he is today but he was a good defender in Orlando when he was younger. And this is about the viability to play the position. Obviously Queen will play both the 4 and the 5 and by no means will ever be an exclusive 5.
And the point still stands... there's a path for him to be viable at the 5 but it requires a ton of physicality on his part especially at the point of contact. He doesn't hold his ground as well as the guys I listed. And that's always been the path for players who lack length.

I mean, Queen was awful defensively last season.
He's a rookie so there's room for improvement but it needs to be a massive improvement just to be playable defensively.
