The ONLY way the Pels can't get a huge haul is if AD says that he only wants to go to LA. Other teams will bid but not as heavy.

I mentioned that in another thread.

My main point was we won't get true value in purely a basketball sense. And the reason is a team won't give up every single thing we want with the idea that they'd prefer to just take their chances in free agency as opposed to giving up everything. He's obviously not as good as AD but that's essentially what happened to Paul George and the Lakers.

And look how that worked out for the Lakers. You think Boston or LA is gonna make that mistake again? Not a chance.

My point is not that they won't go after him or make a sizeable offer.

My point was that BOS won't completely break the bank and give us an offer that truly reflects AD's value if AD isn't telling them 100% he'll extend with them.

What AD will do is give a list of 3-5 teams that he will agree to "opt in" for. That gives them two years with him and then he will sign a deal with them that takes him to year 10 and allows him to opt out and sign a mega deal. That will be how it works.

So, if you are one of the 3-5 teams on that list, you will be competing with the others and that market will get insane. I image the Lakers will say: Hart, Ball, Kuzma, Ingram - pick any 3 plus two picks. Philly will have Simmons in the mix. Bulls will come strong.

Tatum, Hayward, and 3 firsts is very realistic IMO. As long as AD doesn't say, "I will only opt in and/or re-sign with LA" -- then the offers won't be great.

As I've stated we would not recieve any 2019 picks from Boston, they couldnt make the trade until after Kyries contract is over, which is after the draft.

We would receive the players they draft on our behalf.

"Yeah Danny, go ahead and draft X,Y,Z players, and when we can I'll trade you AD for them."

Team R swoops in with a last minute offer we cant refuse.

"Yeah Danny, keep those guys we got another offer that's better."

Demps and Ainge have been involved in potential trades pretty regularly since Demps' first year here. Some of those ended up not happening including a deal to send David West in a S&T until he decided to go to Indy instead. An AD deal falling apart is a risk but I think they've worked together enough that Ainge would be able to take that into account with his offer.

If those offers are realistic, my god, I could actually see the other side of the coin.

Tatum and multiple firsts is a massive haul and he would be on a rookie deal and a rookie extension. That saved cap space is big. Hayward has not looked good, but I could see him returning to some form.

3 of those plus 2 firsts from the Lakers? Also wow and the above for Tatum applies to Kuzma and Ball as well.

I’m not sure where I stand on Simmons. I’d prefer Tatum by a good bit, but Simmons is a better prospect than any of the Lakers.

Chicago is intriguing. A deal consisting of Markkanen, Valentine, Dunn plus picks... i think it could be argued Markkanen will end up being better than Simmons in today’s NBA. Those picks could actually net a return if AD were to get injured or they put the 2019 on the table. There’s not much there.

My only thing is, why would AD even put Chicago on the list? That team is dysfunctional. He’d have Jrue-lite in Zach Lavine and that’s it and cap space. That’d be crappier for him than here by a mile.

Unless he thinks he can lure KD there or something?

I think him and Lavine are friendly and Chicago can add Kyrie if he was willing. AD has Chicago proudly tattooed on his arm and they are a storied franchise and in the East. If they get the #1 overall to trade, they could keep Markanen or Carter and trade us the other.

Zion + Markanen or Carter + Dunn + Felicio for AD would be very interesting. Chicago is my dark horse team that hasn’t been mentioned by most of the national media, but they have assets, cap space, and the hope to keep him to give a great offer.

We’d have to hope playing for his hometown would be a big enough draw for them to be on his list.
