That's not a knock since Chandler was a starting centre on a championship team. Just interested to hear thoughts

Think a version of Chandler who can also shoot. I have a lot of hope that Hayes can be a complete player.

He has better touch and mechanics on his shot. He could realistically be a solid threat from three years from now.

Myles Turner. tyson was a force down low

Turner
- good defender
- good shooter
- can finish at the rim
- meh rebounder
- isn't a liability on the floor in the late minutes

hayes is already a good shooter. he needs the size to defend and rebound better.

A modern Chandler is pretty much his ceiling.

In case y’all are too young to remember, Chandler was hailed as the next KG(mid range game included) coming out.

Jackson needs to be a rim running spot up shooter...aka a modern Tyson.
He’s 2 years away imo

Huh? How so? I know he can shoot fts decently and that can translate to a decent shooting form down the line but is he really a good shooter rn?

I think people under estimate the impact Chandler had on winning. I think at one point a few gms in the league said he was the most valuable center in the game. Look what he did. Hornets never recovered from losing him. He heads to Mavs they win title and once he left they never were the same again. Went to knicks and they win playoff series they went back to dumpster after he left. He was a force in this league.

Chandler was exceptionally valuable to
The Hornets, and he was far more than just half of the Crescent City Connection.
It was devastating when he was let go.
In fact, his departure indirectly led to my being permanently exiled from that “other board”.

Unsure on your definition of “good shooter”
He hasnt attempted an outside shot since summer league, and he shot a whole what, 7 shots outside the paint in college?

i meant free throw shooter, similar to myles starting his career.

didn't have an outside jump shot, but had a good shooting stroke at the line. translated well for him.

meanwhile brandon Clarke, "my pick", is already a solid contributor.
23 minutes off bench.
21 PER
11.5 pts. 6 boards. 1.5 blocks. 1 steal.

Nothing spectacular.
"Solid contributor" now.

I dont get it.
Why waste a pick and first round money on a guy the public sees as 3 years away?

Its not like pels are san antonio or gsw during their best days when they took injured guys and foreigners who were going to be helpful in years to come. Those franchises were picking last.

How many times are you going to do this? It's really annoying. We can't go back and redo the draft.

Also the plan was never for Hayes to get a lot/if any significant minutes this season. And he is only getting pt because 2 frontcourt guys are out with injury right now.

He needs time, but he will be fine.

I think I read Jaxson was one of those kids who played guard growing up, then had a massive growth spurt. It looks like his has pretty good handles and touch around the rim.

I don't think Chandler had either of those, just a very tall/athletic big man who could dunk.

IMO Hayes ceiling is much higher.

Are you advocating drafting players based on what the public's perception is of said player?

His foul rate is alarmingly high, 9.2 fouls per 36 minutes. Yeah it's a small sample size, but that's significantly worse than Diallo and Ajinca. The good thing about getting thrown into the deep end of the pool is he now has a pretty clear idea of what he needs to work on.

A 23 year old rookie is ready earlier than a 19 year old rookie. Omg no way who would’ve ever thought.

Yeah, but fouling a lot was something that he did at Texas and was mentioned in the draft's scouting reports on him. He just can't seem to keep his hands vertical when he goes up to block a shot.

He's going to get into foul trouble every game, so he's not a guy we could count on to start, even if it weren't for the other issues, but I want to keep seeing him develop on the floor.

Hayes is part of the reason that the Pelicans rank 23rd in the league in DREB per 100 possessions while ranking 13th in OREB per 100 possessions. He's good at tipping the ball back out or flushing it home.

That's why, when Hayes is playing, we need to prioritize driving to the basket (also why Hayes+NAW+Frank is a good combo). On a midrange or 3pt shot, the defender has time to turn to the basket and box Hayes out, and Hayes lacks the lower-body strength to move defenders out of the way. On a drive to the basket, though, the defenders are trying to block the shot, and a missed shot offers a much better chance for an OREB.
