Pels are 15% to make playoffs at best.

I say this every season before the season and it doesn't change this early, injury and streaks play way too big a factor to give odds on the teams competing for the last 2 seeds. If I assume no major injuries and try to give a realistic assessment of how the rest of the schedule plays out for the Pelicans I see a team with a win total in the 46-49 range. Do you need 50 for the 8 seed? That's something we don't know either.

What happens to Houston if Harden goes down for a few months? Y'all managed without Dwight, but can you really manage without Harden? Same of Dallas and Dirk. Memphis and Gasol or Conley. Nobody is safe this early in the season.

Yes to all of those imo all of those teams would still finish ahead of NOLA.

The lowest seeded team you have a the slightest chance of catching is Dallas and Pels are 5 back already. Best bet is to hope OKC starts out slowly and can't get to above 45 wins.

I like our chances: 16 games, 8 wins, 8 losses.

Wins against:
7-14 Orlando
4-15 Charlotte
13-5 San Antonio (lucky)
5-14 LA Lakers
4-13 Minnesota
9-9 Sacramento
5-14 Utah
5-13 OKC (fully loaded)

Losses against:
15-5 Dallas (Led by 3 going into 4th)
15-3 Memphis
9-7 Cleveland
14-4 Portland (late lead got Monty-balled)
9-9 Denver
9-9 Sacramento
11-6 Atlanta
12-5 Washington (missed last second shot)

As of right now, we're middle of the pack and the rankings show that. If we keep it up, compete well against >.500 teams, don't drop the games to those <.500, and not throw away games with double digit leads into the 4th, I'd say we have a good chance of being able to pull off 46-50 wins. We just need to go .636 or so the rest of the way to get 50.

We've got to beat pretty much every shitty team we play and steal a couple from the good teams.

Unless some other teams really falter or get injured, or we make a major move, I think its going to be tough.

As small as the Cunningham and Mekel signings seem, they could be huge for this team. Against Portland when AD, Tyreke and Jrue were on the bench the team was outscored by 18 (Mike Prada tweet IIRC). We saw the Thunder almost get back in the game thanks to Rivers. This might be a totally different team if the bench doesn't STB every time Monty platoons them in.

Shouldn't Monty stagger Jrue and Reke so that one of them is always running the point?

ETA: This would obviously mean more Rivers, but he wouldn't be asked to create for others.

Oh lord, I take it you disagree...

If they both play 36 minutes a night, you can start and finish the game with them, but then stagger them for much of the 2nd and 3rd.

No, I agree completely. Hysterical laughter as in the topic makes me laugh like a mad man. The lack of staggering is probably reason #2 that the torches and pitchforks are out already this season, reason #1 being AD not getting enough shots which could be directly related to Tyreke not getting enough time with the 2nd unit to get the Hero Ball out of his system when the 4th quarter rolls around.

Everyone wants them staggered, a lot of heads say monty should too.

its funny because, well he doesn't and we give up double digit leads to single digit on a regular basis.

Can we get an update to the OP?

Maybe it is too early to blow up the Pelicans.

Phoenix and Sacramento are falling off and don't look very good right now. We either need to hold off OKC or catch Dallas. Both of which seem like tough tasks.

Did i hear correctly that Robin Lopez broke his hand last night? If so, I guess we should see how important he is to their success.

ETA: yea he did break his hand

quote:

Lopez, who according to Blazers coach Terry Stotts will "be out a while," injured his right hand early in the third quarter of the 108-95 victory after hitting his hand hard on Boris Diaw's head and did not return.

"It's a little frustrating," said Lopez, who said there might be two breaks in his hand and that it would be re-evaluated Tuesday. "I've been pretty fortunate with injuries in my career."

Im trying to stay positive but there is not a team in the west above us and including the Thunder that I can see us finishing ahead of. There just isnt any room for us and it has nothing to do with our worthiness.

Interesting. Kaman is giving them almost as much as Lopez in 19 MPG, 10/6 vs Lopez' 9.6/7.2. So they may not lose that much from the starting center position, but Kaman obviously has been a useful back up and now they need to get that same 10/6 out of Meyers Leonard or Freedland. I also wonder if Kaman's been putting up his numbers with the 2nd unit or playing with Aldridge. We know he's a ball stopping blackhole on offense, so even though he's producing OK I wonder how he meshes with the starters.

Yea, He'd be the 5th option as a starter as opposed to probably top 2 of the bench. Hopefully it screws up their feng shui.

As long as Aldridge and Lillard don't get hurt, they should be completely fine.

I somewhat disagree, Portland before ROLO and Portland after ROLO looked like a completely different team. May be coincidence but I think he has a very positive effect on that team.
