He should have had as many attempts as Curry tonight

Absolutely. During our win streak trey was taking like 9 3s a game but only took 6 tonight. BI also needs to take more 3s. Trey scored 21 on 9 shots, that’s stupidly efficient

I'm enjoying his development. The leap and the flashes he's showing has been absolutely glorious to see after all the shitty draft picks.

This is the issue I have when Zion comes back. Trey is too good to have on the bench. He needs to be a full time starter . This “starter minutes” off the bench is bs. Needs to get 32+ a night

I think it's pretty poor offensive gameplan to have a guy of his caliber shooting only getting 9 shots. When he get's hot he's arguably a #1 scoring option, yet we can't figure out a way to get him more than 9 shots?

You can only do so much when he's really not just a let it fly guy, and his offensive game is also still limited.

We're seeing flashes of some things he can, but he's not a guy you just give the ball to and he can get you a bucket. Even a guy like Klay Thompson who comes off screens and shoots 3s, he still has a lot in his bag to just take a guy off the dribble and score, which Trey does not have.

And while he's been putting up more shots lately, I can think of a couple of instances last night where there was a late close out that wouldn't affect his shot but he just didn't take it or attach the closeout.

All of the above is not a knock on Trey, he's had a really great year. But those are things he needs to work on before we can call him a #2 option at any point, and also some of the reasons why he doesn't always get more shots up that may not always be because of coaching.

He also took 6 3s last night, that's not THAT bad. Again, he's not a guy who will create his own 3s, it's all catch and shoot, so there will always be a limitation there compared to other guys who can and will take more 3s on average.

He's averaging 7.3 attempts from 3 per 36.

How many are you realistically expecting for a guy who is primarily just a stand in place catch and shoot guy? He doesn't create his own shot, and flying around 5 screens to take movement 3s isn't really his thing either.

I just don't know what else you want a coaching staff to do. It's on the rest of the team to create double teams and put defenses into rotation, that's the only or main way to get him open looks.

Trey is basically a C&S 3-pt shooter. 90% of his 3-pt attempts are C&S as opposed to OTD. Only bad teams will allow Trey to stand there wide open & receive a pass to shoot the 3. He must have help to create a 3-pt look. Not an easy thing to do for a really good C&S 3-pt guy, when the other team zeros in on limiting his 3-pt attempts.

You can run more plays to try & get him open...but I don't think our main players are very motivated to sacrifice to the point of making sure Trey gets these shots. Maybe 1 or 2 will set picks or whatever...but that's about it.

curry and Klay run around.
trey stands at the line.
who gets open?
also both curry and Klay can fire after cutting around a screen.
they do not always just step into a jumper.
Klay is back offensively.
he can flip the ball up without needing to be set.
Klay and curry are at another level.

I'm happy for tm3. I liked him at the draft. pels win the 10 17 trade. ziaire isn't even playing. knee. admittedly ziaire williams before knee issue was the better two way. he actually started a couple games vs gsw in playoffs last year.

Seems like the last 5 games prior he was doing a few of these.

He's not though. Maybe at the beginning of the year sure. However, he can shoot from the hip or put the ball on the floor too. No one is saying hes BI or Giannis, but the dude can do more than what this coaching staff is allowing.

As good as he is from mid-range he (and CJ) absolutely have to start getting to the rim more AND taking more 3's. Efficiency wise it just makes so much more sense.

a couple years ago we ran into similar integration issue. its because during season you can not run them around on off days with 60 games under your belt.

Movement shooting is one of the hardest things in the NBA and you're comparing him to probably the 2 best movement shooters of all time.

There's a huge, huge gulf between seeing a glimpse of something you see him do a handful of times over 5 games and make him the #2 option and let him cook and do those things all game/every game.

95% of his game is either a catch and shoot 3 without movement and attacking a hard close out of a pass to him. There's going to be limitations in how many shots he can take.

only way he’ll get better is if you allow him to continue to increase the amount of these shots for him to take. Once Z comes back it’s going to happen less with three high usage guys on the floor. I’d prefer to see him take shots away from CJ. I’ll take the lumps along the way until he fully develops. The potential is there. I’m a believer.

He’s been playing fine defensively for weeks now. Defense has not been an issue with this team since Trey has started. It’s been the offense. CJ and BI playing iso ball has hurt us way too often. Can’t have BOTH guys playing like this.

Problem is, no team in our position is going to use this time to experiment.

You can fairly argue we should have done more of it earlier in the season and I'd agree. But Trey also wasn't showing these additional glimpses of attacking closeouts, floaters, etc earlier in the season.

This

He had a couple or few weeks of bad D in the middle of the season, but as you said, he's been fine since that time.
