Brown makes this team a borderline playoff team assuming nobody improves.
If all you give up is herb it's 3 years of playoffs with the current construct.
The issue is, we are not in the position to do a trade like this because our ceiling is a playoff team that's it.

This is the wrong mentality.
You want fears and queen to get playoff experience asap.
You want a vet teaching them through his play and work ethic.
Brown is that dude. Finals mvp. Mvp candidate.
He would step in and be right up there with Chris and AD and Boogie as the best player to play for this team.
You have to swing for the fricking fences every year you can. Players like brown aren't available every offseason. The league is fickle. Plenty of good teams make deep runs unexpectedly.
Goddammit Joe make it happen.

I wouldn't be opposed, but we have 2 young talented players. Essentially saying that'll be our duo without a future to replenish for 5 years is worrisome.
If we were a market who can attract free agents I'd say sure, but we're not. You have to hope zion and dj can be of value because poole is 30mil that'll become nothing.

Some of yall are really, really undervaluing jaylen brown.
Jaylen brown is elite and still young. Yes, the contract is going to be nuts but he is an alpha 1.

I really don't understand people not wanting jaylen brown. Would people not want Tatum? It makes zero sense.

It’s more about what would be required to give up. Multiple good picks and Trey our best asset. So then when Brown leaves or his body breaks down we haven’t added enough new young players for Fears and Queen as the future. And then we’re spending so much on Brown the rest of the roster will have to be cheap because we can’t go into the tax. It’s not about Brown who I’d love to have. Frankly though it’s fine by me if they do it because that team would be more fun to watch.

If tweet fails to load, click here. I'd be surprised if Detroit isn't a trade partner for us in some way

Looks like there might be some interaction between Detroit and Boston...

We still have:
Trey= (3) 1sts
Herb= (1-2) 1sts
Missi/ Bey= (1-2) 1sts
Zion/ Murray= (3-6) 1sts
Brown= (3-4) 1sts
I never understood this logic. You are trading your picks for someone that's = value to those picks. You can still blow it up and recoup the same picks you lost. Its really a 0 risk/ 100% reward move if its just all our picks.

This is also backwards thinking. Adding Jaylen Brown is the exact type of thing that creates a market to attract FA's.

I'd offer (3) 1sts/ (4) swaps/ Herb and then offer (4) 1sts with less swaps. Still think it can get done without Murphy.

They don't want 1sts. They want win now players to surround Tatum, that have more manageable deals. Two guys on a Supermax is not sustainable for them. They need depth and functional complimentary players.
If I am the Celtics, I tell the Pelicans that I want Murphy, Murray, Bey, Missi, 2029 1st (unprotected), and a future swap for Brown and Hauser. That is the minimum they could take back. That works for both teams and I believe is pretty equitable. I don't want to move Missi or Bey, but you have to give up value to get value.

What is the downside? Either Brown makes us a competitive team or we trade him for a similar package along with other players? Brown is worth the value of the picks, you can recoup the picks.

If they want to do this then they definitely cant dictate this:
quote:
Murphy, Murray, Bey, Missi, 2029 1st (unprotected), and a future swap for Brown and Hauser.
At that point you are saying they plan to move Brown and will take the best package. No best package is going to include players like that.
OKC/ SAS are still the only teams that can offer those players and the picks and neither may want to risk their current sustainability when they are already competing.

Giving up a ridiculous amount for a player on a MASSIVE contract and we aren't a championship team, which we won't be, with very little in the way to get better

OKC shedding salary begins.
I can't imagine that is all that the Pistons are going to use the cap space for. Hell Joe might be re-routed elsewhere

I never said he isn't worth a valuable young player and 5+ 1sts but what team is able to do that without hurting their roster or negativity impacting their ceiling? Again, only (2) come to mind between OKC/ SAS.
You pretty much have SAS/ OKC with bulk picks and mixed players and then Jazz/ Pels with Kessler/ Herb + picks.
