Works when you are a destination team which prints money like the Heat.

Mid major market which doesn’t have the kinds of corporate sponsors and luxury box income, like us? Less so. We would need to be racking in Warriors kind of money to do that.

Huh? JV and and DG alone get you the money you would need. Then DD, Kira and 3-4 picks. Money is relatively the same and we would still have BI Zion CJ Herb Trey Nance and Jose. That’s an 8 man rotation. What am I missing?

You’re missing the extensions for Herb and Jose, and the other 7 players you need to fill out your roster, which puts you DEEP into the luxury tax, something we cannot afford to do.

Again, that is piss poor roster building and there’s a reason no team has ever done it.

He used to be good. Depending on who you ask, he got shitty once he got paid or the way they are using him isn’t worth what they pay him.

99% chance means absolutely nothing but Collins supposedly had a conversation with every pelicans player after the game and winked at a pels fan recording him. Popcorn?!

Really struggling to see what Collins’ role would be for us

Come off the bench to play run and gun with Z? No way he starts. A starting 5 of CJ/BI/Z/Collins/JV is BBQ chicken against any guard with a pulse

With his contract he’d have to take JV’s spot long term. I was a little surprised to notice that he was taller than Larry, but I don’t see rolling with 2 small ball “centers” as a good plan.

Didn’t we sign Jose to a few year contract and Herb wouldn’t put us far in the tax. It’s not like he is a max player. That squad is winning a championship which would more than make up for the investment. If we win a championship Pelicans will be here forever and fan base will grow exponentially and they would make the money back in a a few years of not less. Just think how much the fan base grew because of Zions and last years playoffs. A championship would be 100x that. Griff has always said he has permission to go into the tax for the right move. This would be that move

Yes but as a small market team we simply cannot afford large tax bills. The warriors can afford it because of the market they’re in. Gayle could afford to go 5-10 million into the tax, but the repeater tax bill is the killer. You could keep that team together for a year or two but thats it.

He’s taller but Larry has a crazy long standing reach (9’0”) for his 6’7” height. 9’ is pretty much the natural breakpoint for guys that can play Center regularly. That combined with his athleticism is why he can be so effective as a small ball 5.

Collins, although taller at 6’8.25”, actually has a shorter standing reach (8’10.5”) than Larry.

Shifting gears…what do y’all think the trade value would be for James Wiseman? Former #2 pick, only 21 and missed a year of development, but his per 36 are surprisingly good with replacement level advanced stats. Is he a diamond or a dud?

Can we afford him? Have to structure the deal with gs not receiving anything back salary wise.

More than we would be willing to give up for him.

Ask yourself, on a team with zero big men, why can’t he get minutes?

It’s because he’s worse than Jax

If it was just him underperforming with the main Warriors, that could be chalked up to a bad fit. But he was getting shitty +\- numbers on their G league team… something like a -20.

When you aren’t good enough for the G league, that is Anthony Bennett territory.

I was interested in Collins for a little but after watching last night there is no way I want to pay 25/yr for that. You can find someone way cheaper to give you that production.

Dude has all the physical tools but has absolutely no BBIQ. Dumb as rocks and he’s had one of the best defenders ever in draymond mentoring him. Also not that cheap, he makes 10m and 12m this year and next
