The nets are making Seth Curry, Joe Harris, and patty Mills availible and are looking for "upgrades"...

Do you do Kira+Jax (or some combination of young guys to match salary) plus a first for Joe Harris?

Seems like a lot but the guy is a 40% three point shooter and has been for the last 7 years. Has one more year after this on his contract at 19 Mil

I think it’s clear that team is a tax team. We don’t want to be repeaters if we aren’t contenders so we’d need to be confident. I think Gayle will give us one shot at the tax
I tend to agree that this is a likely route, so with that, I don't think this season is the season to do that.

Not this season IMO, but definitely next season.

For the record, I'm all for making moves and adding dudes this season as long as we still remain under the tax threshold.

You must be a Nets fan because thats a horrible deal for us.

I would do a direct Jax for Curry swap though (Jax to a 3rd team for another piece of course).

One thing to look for, Phoenix’s new owner will be taking over before the trade deadline. They may be looking to make a splash trade soon and have reportedly been shopping Paul

Trying to figure out what team would want Paul and have any assets worth the Suns pursuing.

This screams of a Lakers type move, swap Westbrook (to a third team) for Paul.

There’s also been rumblings of Suns being interested in Van Vleet, so thats another possibility.

VanVleet + Boucher for Paul + picks seems like a good deal for both sides

What does that really do for the Raptors though (unless there are multiple picks with light protections)?

They don’t lose FVV for nothing. They seem close to blowing it up

Zach Lowe and Ramona Shelbourne both said they think Detroit sticks to their guns and don't trade Bogdonavic unless they get a really strong offer, they've been looking for at least an unprotected 1st, and they don't think he gets traded.

It's probably for the best. If the choice is:

someone like Burks/Beasley and a future lottery protected Pels 1st.

vs

Bogdonavic and giving up the 2023 pick unless it's top 2.

I think I'd rather replace Graham with a better Graham and add another Dyson/Trey level player in 2023 than add Bogdonavic for the next few years to keep a pick in the 20s in a few years.

1000% agree. Turn graham into a reliable shooter. Draft another 3&D guy and keep this thing rolling

Some snippets from Jake Fischer today
quote:

The rest of the Blazers’ roster seems far more unsettled ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline. Portland has given rival teams the impression the Blazers are open to discussing the majority of their players, particularly Josh Hart and Jusuf Nurkic, sources said, as the franchise remains committed to building a playoff contender around Lillard. Portland has engaged teams with an eye toward size with athleticism, plus wing-shooting defenders, sources said. Hart has become one of the buzzier names among league executives this week, as he’s expected to decline a $12.9 million player option for the 2023-24 season.

quote:

In exchange for Hyland, the Nuggets have expressed an interest in defensive-minded frontcourt players, sources said, and will search for a player plus a first-round pick. Moving Hyland, while prepared for the risk of losing Brown in free agency, will also have Denver considering returns that could net another reserve point guard, sources said. As far as potential suitors, former Denver president Tim Connelly, now piloting the Timberwolves’ front office, is still considered a big supporter of Hyland.

New Orleans has been repeatedly mentioned as a suitor for Hawks forward John Collins, and the Pelicans have certainly registered their interest with Atlanta, sources said. The teams would seem to be natural trade partners, with the Hawks eager to add defensive-minded players and the Pelicans looking to find greater offense and more shooting, although there has yet to be significant traction between the teams, sources said.

Any pursuit of Collins, or a dreamier target like Raptors forward OG Anunoby — should the Raptors truly make him available — would induce some critical accounting for New Orleans’ cap sheet, however. The Pelicans have been pleased with Jonas Valanciunas’ fit next to Zion Williamson, sources said, but Collins or Anunoby would both appear to be maximized next to Williamson as small-ball centers. And New Orleans has shown a long history of avoiding the luxury tax. The Hawks, meanwhile, have no mandate to trade Collins, sources said, and Atlanta appears open to keeping the 25-year-old forward if no value deal materializes before the deadline.

The Pelicans have discussed Jaxson Hayes, Naji Marshall and Devonte’ Graham in preliminary conversations around the league, sources said. Hayes will become a restricted free agent this offseason. Graham still has two years at over $12 million for each season remaining on his contract.

Don't like seeing Naji being discussed unless its teams calling about him and being turned down

Thoughts...
1. A little surprised Kira isn't on that list. If they aren't willing to trade him, they must have plans for him on this squad.

2. Not surprised and surprised at the same time with Naji name being in there. I don't think they're actively try to move him. But you have to imagine they have to include a player of value in any trade of significance. They probably have Trey, Dyson, and Herb untouchable from their standpoint.

3. It sounds like they're willing to go into the tax to make a push now.

Shams saying Kenrich Williams is worth a first kind of suggests Naji is too. Teams usually value current picks over future picks and there are many reasons why the Pels shouldn't trade the 2023 pick/swap. It's possible a team would value Naji over a 2025 Pels 1st.

If there was ever a time, it feels like its now. We have a really good window this year and next while our young guys are still on good contracts.

If they going to report Graham, then report it with accuracy. He has one year left after this year at 12M. The second is non guaranteed which is more palatable.

Collins is a nice player, but I just don't understand the fit.

He's not big enough to guard most of the centers the Pelicans could see in the playoffs, and he's shooting 26% from 3 this year, so he's not a floor placer on offense.

He's basically a younger Nance, minus all the small non-box score stuff Larry provides. He's a rim runner/pick and roll dive man, which I guess is something we lack since we don't use Zion that way.

Its a steep price for a guy that won't play over Larry in defensive situations and is game by game whether or not he'd be in over JV for important offensive possessions.
