At least one team has previously offered three first-round picks for Anunoby, and Siakam is worth more. Trading both would be a near-total reset around Scottie Barnes.

My guess is the Knicks but with some sort of protections for OG.

Any team that trades three 1s for OG is going to suck for a long time.

Agreed. He's a role player who cant create his own offense.

So if the Pels traded 3 1sts for OG, the Pels would suck for a long time?

I would hope we were not foolish enough to offer 3 1sts unless all 3 were heavily protected and became 2nds if not conveyed.

I mostly agree, but again, if we did do that, that means we would have overpaid for OG. But we would not "suck for a long time"

I still hate the term “three firsts!!!” As if all first round picks are the same. The Knicks firsts are terrible and nothing more than headline catchers.

If we really really thought Og was what he’s broadcasted to be, we could blow them out of the water without completely handcuffing ourselves asset wise. Something like Herb, Graham, Hayes, Lakers top four protected first and Bucks future unprotected for Og and Precious. And Herb could go to third team for “third first” if that’s truly what they want to do. I’m not convinced OG is enough of an upgrade and fit over Herb to move forward. But it could be done IMO and would beat other offers.

The New Orleans Pelicans reached out to the Atlanta Hawks regarding forward John Collins, but talks were merely preliminary, according to league sources.

Atlanta is fielding offers for Collins but is comfortable keeping him on the roster past the trade deadline if the right move does not materialize.

I wonder how collins would fit on this team. I dont see how he could start

And isn't one of the biggest tensions in Atlanta(asides from Trae being a diva) that Collins hasn't been given what he feels like is his deserved role as a focal point of the team?

In New Orleans he'd basically be the 6th man. Wouldnt even finish some games.

He also makes 25m/yr. thats an extremely expensive 6th man

Not good IMO

I don't know that he'd be any happier here than he was in Atlanta if his issues are a diminished role, and on top of that, we'd be paying $25mil+ for a role player.

It just doesn't make sense.

Agreed. Not a fan, especially at his salary. Interesting that we have seen a couple of reports of us being interested in a big man.

I'd think if they get Collins with a pick and the 3 turds we have on the team (DG, JH and GT), they would flip Val, Herb and 2 first to Toronto for OG.

Probably.

Because we wouldn't have money to pay for glue guys like Naji, Jose, Herb, etc. Then when BI and Zion get hurt, as you know they will, we'll be relying on OG to pick up the slack, and guess what, that dude ain't it.

If a core of Zion/BI/CJ is that fragile that 3 draft picks lost is all it takes for us to "suck" even after adding a 4th player better than anyone else we have, then I'd wonder if you're all for blowing it up and getting rid of Zion and BI? Not sure I'd want either if adding a good player and losing draft picks is the difference between being good and sucking.

How does these trades make sense for any of the teams involved.

A lot of turnover for our team. We would be losing a lot of size and be forced to play Collins at the 5, where he has complained about being in the past.

It's rumoured the Hawks want to get rid of Collins. For a first and essentially 3 expiring contracts, I dont think do much better.

As for Toronto they need a big man.
OG is replaced by Barnes.
They now can play Siakam at his natural position. They get 2 useful players and 2 firts. Don't see how Toronto get more.

He has complained about getting touches, not necessarily playing C.
Yes I agree that he would get less touches with Zion, BI and CJ, but he would definitely finsih games and I think WG would trust Collins over JV.

I'm not advocating this trade though.
I'd rather make small moves.

Collins is not coming to the Pels and has no place here. But if the Pels are asking, it’s likely to determine his costs for a possible three team arrangement. As an example, Indy has been said to be interested. If we wanted Turner, receiving Collins instead of a pick could be more appealing to Indy. Maybe the Jazz prefer Collins instead of more picks and we want someone there. Lot of possibilities depending on what teams are looking for.
