I'm not saying I'm for trading Rivers, but why would this be such a big deal?

Is Rivers really a big piece of the puzzle going forward?

I know he's improved lately, but is his ceiling really higher than being a decent bench player down the road?

I'd much prefer them trade Roberts than Rivers, but I'm not sure I understand why people would freak out if the Pels decided to move him.

This is similar to Willie Green vs. Marcus Thornton in some ways. It's not to that level, but part of the reason people like Rivers is because they hate Roberts.

That's actually a decent ceiling. I'd take a Jarret Jack level combo guard with the #10 pick. Whether trading rivers is bad really depends on what he gets you. I'd be upset if we ended up with Udoh for Rivers.

Fear leads to anger
Anger leads to hate
Hate leads to complete and utter apathy

Numb at this point from expecting every single move to be made one that pretty much slaps most of the die-hard fans in the face. Piss off.

Improvements to the Performance:

- Come to the arena and watch the Amazing Roberts dribble around for 43 minutes (up from his previous 32)!
- You will get a once in a lifetime chance to see the opposing guard do anything and everything he wants!
- Every fast break is ensured to end in a slap on the wrist and 1!
- Assists? Who needs them when you can have turnovers!?

Because Roberts is fricking terrible

I don't know, he could be. But he is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential, and rather than give him more playing time to see where that leads we decide to trade him off.

My point is we have no idea how good he can be. I don't understand why we decide to trade him away as soon as his trade value is good enough rather than see where he can bring that potential to.

I think we actually do have a pretty good idea. His offense is and probably always will be below average for his position. So there's that.

He's just not a good shooter.

There is absolutely zero evidence to support this opinion. His percentages have increased from last year by quite a decent bit and he's 21 years old.

if anything, Monty over played Rivers last season with Roger Mason available on the bench. this is in no way an attempt to defend Monty, but it's not unheard of that a coach would play certain players certain minutes based off what the FO is telling them.

if monty himself is limiting austin to play roberts, then i would be pretty damn upset as well. i started the original why is roberts getting more minutes than rivers thread

We're still talking about Austin Rivers right?
He IS NOT a good shooter. He might be a decent shooter at some point though.
He IS NOT a good scorer.

So what do we get for Rivers?

If a Gordon trade could bring in a turkey sandwich, does Austin Rivers garner a PB&J? Half a PB&J? A bag of chips?

What is the most we could get in return for Rivers honestly? Not too big of a sample size to get solid value in return.

A can of Dad's Old Fashioned Root Beer?

But seriously, I'm thinking just another project player. Not sure who's on the market though. It certainly won't be anything we'll like immediately though.

Can someone please give me one decent flippin reason we'd trade a project player who's turning the corner for another project player who's probably older and would have to learn everything anew?

This reeks of making a trade for the sake of making a trade

I mean I know it is blasphemy and punishable by death or exile to speak ill of the great and wise prophet Dell Demps on this board, but I'm not sure this makes any sense
