This is to be expected. Frazier played well down the stretch. Good young, cheap backup

Nate Duncan speculating that he gets 5 million a year blew my mind.

I agree. 3 year deal with the first year guaranteed at 1.3m with a partial guarantee ($500k) on year 2 with a team option on Yesr 3 - total value of $4.5m I think would be a solid deal for both sides

Unless our medical and training staff are fired, Frazier might be starting come January 2017

No offense, but if this board was GM, we wouldn't land or bring back one player this summer. There is a BILLION cap dollars out there and 500 million more coming next year. And there are like 7 good free agents, 10 solid starters beyond that, and a bunch of meh guys. That money is going to be spent

Oh I agree...I may be undervaluing the actual dollars but I tend to agree with you on WHO we should target

Some minds are about to get blown:

Austin Rivers plans on talking with Clippers, several teams when free agency opens tomorrow night, per source.

Rivers looking at big pay raise, maybe $8 million per season, increase from the $3.3 million he made last season with Clippers, per source.

Yep. The cap increasing so much in one year is going to make these contracts wacky. It will level off in 3 years, but right now there are too many teams with money competing against each other for limited resources.

Taking percentages of the cap isn't even going to give you the best estimate. A guy that would have made 15% last year will get 18-20% this year due to the increased competition.

If I were GM, I'd be Sam Hinkie jr

I'd take Frazier at $5m before entertaining Rivers wishes for $8m.

Someone mentioned reporting contracts as a % of the cap the other day to help people grasp the sheer dollar figure changes for these players.

I definitely agree with that. For example, Ryan Anderson was under contract for $8.5 last year (12% of 15-16 cap) and while he may want twice as much in dollar figures at $17, that would be 24% under last year's cap while this year its only 18% which under last year's cap translates to a $12.7. Much easier to process.

I hope people could follow that logic...

Honestly, qualifying offers are about as useful as tits on a boar this year. People will extend offers to most restricted players, so the only question becomes matching.

Well, I guess there is some value, but the amount of the QO is pointless

That's basically what we do on BSS, but only the super fans care. 99% of fans are casual and don't understand the cap, the CBA, etc and those people are just gonna see the contracts and be dumbfounded

The problem with Frazier is we don't have Bird Rights on him so we'd have to use our cap space to match any competing bids. Frazier at $5 million may seem relatively reasonable, but may not be affordable depending on who else we target in FA.

Austin Rivers who shot 43.8/33.5/68.1 and posted 8.9/1.5/1.5 with 0.1 BPG, 0.7 SPG, and 0.9 TOV is going to get 8mil. He played 67 games last year on 22MPG.

that's ridiculous

See, you guys think you are prepared but I don't think you are. Rivers might get 10.

8-12 gets you a 5th-7th man. For a solid starter, you are probably paying 14 or more
