This season is a waste and this draft class is loaded with potential all stars.

We know Zion will demand a trade after he signs his extension, and we need to still find our 1A (BI is a 1B) so why not try to take a shot at the following to see if they can become a superstar?

AJ Griffin- likely the next Jimmy Butler with a better 3 ball if he stays healthy

Sharpe- likely the next Zach Lavine if he stays in the draft

Johnny Davis- Has some Devin Booker/ Bradley Beal in his game

Jaden Ivey- Ja Morant 2.0 or possibly Brandon Roy

And this is not even discussing the big 3 which is not likely probably, but 4-10 would be fun to take a flyer on.

This season is fools gold, we need a guard to unlock this team and I can't see a scenario where we find on at the trade deadline based on other teams beating our assets.

Let's go find our 1A and compete for a title in 3 years.

You think Jaden Ivey is an improved version of Ja Morant? Lol

It's not a bad comparison. Ivey does have similarities to Morant.

It's that magical time of year again, when all first-round picks are surefire studs, and everyone is sure that there isn't a bust in the batch.

Then problem is who we would be competing against.

Rockets/Thunder - professional tankers with no talent
Magic - utter shite show
Pistons - slightly less of a shite show than the Magic
Spurs - no real talent other than Murray
Kings - disaster zone
Blazers - about to purposefully tank without their apex guy

And that's without really getting into teams like the Pacers, TWolves, Clippers, etc.

If Ingram can sit for an extended period of time that helps a tank, but we're going to be likely picking in no man's land around 10th unless we get insanely lucky. There are just too many shite teams.

All this just for Griff to trade back 10 spots and pick someone who isn’t close to contributing

Only if there was a Darius Garland type player we could've drafted

All of those teams still have a decent chance of finishing above us besides maybe the Kings.

Spurs have solid upside talent all down the roster. Not stars in the making, but good players that fit their role and are well coached.

Kings are a disaster largely because they are trying to play this season like us. They should be recognizing there situation is not in a place where they are just one move away, but that the cumulative effect of poor management necessitates a larger correction than they are willing to commit to. As is though, their new GM seems to have a decent eye for talent, even if he is being asked to be their Dell Demps and accelerate the timeline around a wonky roster.

Blazers: after reading more into what Lillard actually said and not the OP of that thread’s interpretation, they aren’t deliberately tanking. They are just not trying to force the issue, which at a minimum should be where the Pels should be operating.

But if you haven’t watched recently, Simons has got the start in Lillard’s absence and looks like a borderline all star, CJ is back and looks good, and the Blazers have won 5 of their last seven in that period with wins over Washington, Brooklyn, and Boston.

10th is also no longer no man’s land with guys like Sharpe coming out and the emergence of Johnny Davis(who I’m not sold on but I think will end up getting picked by someone).

10th is around where I think one of the steals in the draft is likely to first be considered:TyTy Washington. But under performing high upside guys similar to what happened with Cole Anthony will be there too, like Jaden Hardy, who I think made a mistake going to the Ignite.

But every year I feel I hear this argument that we will be in X spot outside the top 10 so the draft is worthless and a crapshoot, and every year good drafting teams prove that utterly wrong like Denver, Memphis, Miami etc. I’ve also pointed this out before but in most recent years the hit rate even going into the 20’s is around 50%. So if you are simply a smart evaluator you should be able to find even good role players 20-30. And the Pels even start 2 in the 30-35 range. So we literally are proof of concept

They're not nearly as likely to be as good as those comps as you're stating.

TyTy is probably your best bet here.

He lacks some of the true point guard skills(but he’s better than his numbers suggest, when the opportunity arose to play Point, he went for 17 dimes), but Like Garland, TyTy has a great pull up jumper from three and mid range, the best floater in the draft maybe in years, and is a deadly catch and shoot player.

Kentucky, as they seem to do consistently with their guards, he is not being showcased ideally(his playmaking and shooting skills especially)…which is another reason if I’m Sharpe I wouldn’t even consider coming back if I’m projected to go top 5(of course he chose Kentucky so reasons to believe he doesn’t believe Kentucky will hurt him like it has to basically every other major guard prospect going back 7ish years now).

No one is complaining if we finish above all those teams. We’d be firmly in the play in

Pels were a .500 team last year with Zion playing next to the corpse of Eric Bledsoe and for a coach the players all hated.

These threads and the Morant/Oden ones are stupid.

Sucks he's injured again. But they need to blow it up now to get higher lottery odds so they can be good in 3 years? foh

There are absolute people complaining on here about possibly finishing in the play in and above 6-8 teams for the lottery.

Count me as one. Would be insanely short-sighted and moronic, which is Griff's MO, so I'm already prepared for it to happen.

It's inevitable that this franchise toils in mediocrity. Even the fans cheer for it now.

I'm sure the Grizz think the experience and competition was such a waste last year.

Their franchise is truly suffering for it

Add Charlotte to that as well--such a waste.

Yes, all that incredible experience our core franchise player is going to get as he watches us on TV from the Nike compound in Portland…

By all means let’s keep pushing BI and Jonas at their career highs in minutes to try and lose our draft pick as the sacrificial lamb to GS or Pho.

Would love to have like the tenth off-season in a row where we come into camp beat up because we don’t know how to build quality roster depth through two regimes and our best guys get run into the ground just to beat sub .500 teams
