Kira was the trade chip we needed to send out if we were going to go after a 6th man/new center, with that gone your roster as currently constructed is what you will see.

You'll probably see Matt Ryan signed to a deal for the rest of the season.

Karlo can be signed cheap too and we'll still be under the tax.

Unless you see a major player all of a sudden request a trade (highly unlikely in mid Jan for this to happen), your Pels will remain the same

I don’t think Kira was a trade chip. No one wanted him. We had to send a second to get rid of him.

Kira literally had 0 value to the point where we traded him just to get him off our books. He wasn’t a “trade chip” he was dead cap.

He was absolutely a trade chip you use to make salaries work

Eh you don’t know that. There were reports going around Pels would make this move first to get under the tax before they made another deal.

One that you absolutely would have needed to get a guy like Allen over here.

You can trade Naji and JV and still get there- according to trade machine.

Is Siakam a better overall player than Zion?

If Zion reaches his full potential, the answer is No. But if he doesn’t- absolutely yes- Siakam would consistently be a very productive all star like player for a team.

Right now yes. Siakam is a 2x All-NBA player. However Siakam was expiring and Zion has 4 years after this left with most of that non-guaranteed since well... he fat

Eh, probably not. Certainly would have been helpful though, but shouldn't take us out of any future trade talks before the deadline if we wanted a dude.

Doesn't mean that we won't make a big trade. At all.

What it does mean is that Griff saw a chance to unload Kira and get under the tax NOW. If no bigger deal works out, at least we're under the tax.

Where Griff didn't want to be is trying to finish a big deal with minutes left on the clock and then end up getting stuck at the end with Kira and over the tax.

He was ballast. Something you would have needed to make a big move.

For sure, there are benefits for continuity but Griff needs to be ready to counter teams in the West getting marginally better at the trade deadline.

Jose is now a trade piece. He’s been relegated to scrub minutes on this team. He would have to be desirable in a trade. 2 weeks ago, it would be hard to see him fall out of favor so quick.

Naji should be the trade piece- his contract expires after this year. I don’t think theres a need to trade Jose this year anyways.
