A lot of folks thought NAW, Hayes and to an extent Kira were all misses by the F.O.

That has changed drastically in the past few weeks.

Kira never got any run due to us having to play JJ, and looks like a really good pg that just needs to add a little more weight.

NAW just needed a little more time in the oven

Hayes needed to get benched for Billy to wake the frick up.

Now Hayes looks like the center of the future for this team and NAW looks like he can be a starter next year which is crazy considering how bad he looked earlier this year.

Future is bright as frick sons.

I dont even think you judge it based on specifically how good those players are. You have to base it off how many possible alternatives there are.

There is only, what, 2 picks you might take over NAW and 1 for Lewis.

And thats just at this exact point. And its debatable.

Hayes is the only one that people can make arguments for a considerable number of prospects.

I always believed in Kira, and while I’m not ready to crown either the definite future quite yet(Hayes needs to get notably better at rebounding to start with Zion, for instance), that draft no longer looks so lopsided.

I think a real offseason should do wonders for Hayes, hopefully he can get some meaningful Vinson time and hit the weight room hard.

At this point though, the crow should be getting roasted and I’m ready to grab a plate.

I don’t Think I’ve ever seen a “turned the switch” moment as drastic as Hayes this year.

I have been high on Hayes, because he showed something last year, but he looked rough this year, and I dont Think moving to more of a half court offense helped him.

But it’s literally like someone turning the light on.

yeah Garland and Hunter also got hurt after we really got going tearing down Griffin for the trade, so it's been easier to look at it from more afar

It really seems to have all correlated around a month or so ago where he decided to start putting in, for lack of a better word, real work and dedication according to Jen Hale and other insiders.

Started showing up early, staying late, doing extra film sessions, putting more time into studying scouting reports and working with and absorbing the knowledge from
coaches/Adams.

And it seems to have paid dividends.

Still not sure if I had a redo that I would trade down because Hunter is just that good, and I wouldn’t push back too hard if someone argued they think we should have taken Rui, Cam Johnson or Herro instead, but Hayes is seemingly overnight turnaround has injected a ton of hope in his development.

Could certainly be, but I sort of continue to question if growing up with a silver spoon has a lot to do with his lack of development til this point.

My personal speculation is that the benching finally made him realize what vets always talk about, which is that the NBA is on another level. And you either get with the program or you’ll find yourself replaced by those that do. Every guy is smarter, more athletic, more skilled, and has some baseline of work ethic to get where they are. Every player, from scrub to superstar, was the best player in their high school, maybe even state, but there are only 30 starting center positions to be had in the NBA. Arguably fewer with how many of those spots are increasingly going to hybrid 4/5’s.

And Hayes was quickly slipping to third in the rotation as an 8th pick. But props to him for recognizing it so soon, however it got jarred into him. Lots of Julian Wright’s playing in Europe or selling insurance, physically gifted guys that didn’t realize the work it takes to be successful at this level until it was too late.

I was on record of wanting Hunter if we wanted a safe pick or Garland if we wanted to roll the dice and go for the home run high upside pick. It’s still too early to tell what path was the correct one. I thought NAW was a steal where we got him but I would not have traded down, but that’s me.

I really wanted Halliburton when he started to drop and that would’ve been my pick if he dropped to us. But since he was gone, I was just as happy with the Kira pick.

Yeah there is a chance that the AD deal and drafting Zion created the whole starting lineup together with the first guy from the bench :)

The JJ trade doesn’t look too bad either especially with these injuries

I thought NAW and Kira were gonna be good players but I’ll admit I thought Jaxson was going to be a bust( especially after being drafted so high) he definitely proving me wrong the last couple weeks. I see his confidence growing every time he steps on the floor and like I said in a different post, the game is slowing down. I still thinks he looks like the Toys R Us Giraffe but he’s gonna be a baller

I don't think it was so much on Griff as to why people were upset with the picks, but more that they weren't getting much run with the new coach.

You can't judge any of those 3 guys until their rookie contracts are up and see what the market dictates how good they are.

Halliburton is fabulous if healthy.

Alpha male.

a lot of things. Many are miserable clucks who think that we should be dominating the league this year. "Lonzo shouldn't shoot threes, BI doesn't have the chest and didn't deserve his contract, Jaxson Hayes has no clue, we should have taken Morant over Zion." Blah, blah, blah. I'm gonna enjoy every second of this team growing. I see they light at the end of the tunnel.

It was definitely more so on Griff. Not getting minutes was frustrating but Griff was getting bashed on here and Twitter. It was like nobody was able to view Jaxson as what we drafted him as, a project. Picking a project at 8 is hard for a fanbase to be patient with, especially knowing you traded back.

But he was always a project with an extremely high ceiling. The analytics reports that I saw before the draft had him tied with Barrett for 3rd -- drafting Hayes was a real nod to the analytics and computers, and it's paying off.

The biggest thing to me is it just looks like Jaxson is really having fun out there. There's no real nervousness anymore, and he doesn't look like he's trying too hard. He's just having a blast, and that really bodes well for the future.

Hybrid 4/5's you say? That may ultimately be what Jaxson becomes. Even more than last night's 3-pt shot, what has impressed me so much is Jaxson's improved handle. Last season, he was scared every time he dribbled the ball. And he's proving that he can defend on the perimeter.
