Can yall imagine how irrelevant New Orleans would be without saints and pelicans here?

No one nationally gives a flying frick about the Pels and the Saints are on a fast-track to irrelevance also.
The city always has and always will be about:
- Drunken debauchery
- Food
- Music (which is really just another excuse for drunken debauchery)

Not sure that’s true to large degrees. The teams keep the city relevant in many ways.

Isn't there some kind of trust with Lauscha and Loomis or something? I don't remember the ins and outs, but there was definitely a plan to keep the Saints/Pels in NOLA post Gayle.
The trust lasts for 5 years, and it is tasked with finding buyers that would "keep the teams in New Orleans" and then distributing the money to the charities she chooses around the city.
So in theory, Lauscha/Loomis could be "owners" controlling the Trust for multiple seasons.
But at some point they must be sold. And no matter how much you try and lock someone in to the city, a rich enough owner may not care about the penalties if it gets him where he wants to go.
The saints aren't going anywhere. The Pels...I don't know

I think the only thing that will potentially move the teams is another Katrina style disaster.
A good chunk of the money left the city after and didn't come back.
Another major storm like that and I think you won't have enough earners and businesses to support a major league franchise much less two.

Back to the actual story:
It said what we pretty much expected. The SKC needs massive improvements, likely 250mill worth at least.
So they have to decide if they do that, how much better will it actually be, how much life will extend it, or will we be back in 10 years needing another massive improvement.
Or do they just bite the bullet and build a new arena.

My ac in the house reached end of life 15 years ago. Still cools :)

After watching the drone video of the dome and how honestly that definitely change my opinion of the dome, it got me to thinking could the SKC even undergo something that drastic from an engineering perspective?
The Dome has the main advantage of structure in what you can and cannot do to it. Its structure clearly allowed for damn near a brand new stadium to be "built" within it. I dont think from a structure perspective alone that the SKC could do this let alone make it look good and modern.
Im sorry, even when I go to AA here in DFW (which I think also needs to be upgraded) it is still miles better.

All I can really think of to add more seats in the lower bowl is to maybe knock out the structure of seats and entirely rebuild slightly steeper to make the top of section essentially just below suites to eliminate the vertical gap that exists behind the existing. This piggyback's off LSUneaux's idea to keep the existing entrance tunnels but would allow keeping existing suites.
The movable seating, especially corners, could be redone to more efficiently use wasted spaces.

"The typical life span of a fixed seat is 20-25 years," the report said.
Someone tell that to the multi colored seats in the dome that are still there and have been since 80’s or 90’s

Could the pels play in the dome if they were to tear down the SKC, and rebuild it? Probably just keep the plaza section open for fans. You won’t need the terrace or club levels.

Let them move. No way this state can waste another $1b giving handouts to rich billionaires.

There is no “handout”.
You do know that the Pelicans and Saints pay rent to the state for using the stadiums right? Not to mention all the tax revenue the teams bring in, combined with the revenue brought in from other events at the arenas. Just the super bowl events alone for that one week will pump more tax money into the city/state than the entirety of the renovations cost the state.

Just because we have never paid the tax doesn’t make her a bad owner.
Never paying the tax, being only one of 2 teams to not do so, absolutely question's her commitment to winning.

She writes the checks, that’s what an owner is supposed to do.

We haven’t had a team show they’re worthy of paying the tax for until now, and all signs are pointing to us being a tax team this season.
They were prepared to pay the tax in 2017 until the unfortunate achilles tear also, as Boogie was in line to get a full max deal along with having AD and Jrue on maxes.

The good news is that the Commissioner doesn’t want the franchise to relocate

I agree with you.
I really think the best thing for both franchises is for Gayle to sell the Pelicans to someone who commits, legally, to her and the NBA to keep them in New Orleans and focus her efforts on the Saints. Is there any other major sports franchise that’s basically owned by one person?

Gayle has $250 million on the night stand!

If your argument is we shouldn't pay the tax unless we are a bonafide contender, that proves my point she's not actually committed to winning.
But we've had a 2nd round team, we've had a 49 win team, we've had teams finish maybe 2 games out of the 4 seed.
We absolutely have had teams worth investing in. Our owner chose not to invest in those teams in order to get that $15mil rev sharing check. I'm not saying you do it every season or keep a Kira Lewis on the team and not get that check, but we 100% have had seasons worth investing in, and she hasn't done it.
