Hindsight is 20/20. When given the opportunity to get him, we had to pull the trigger.

People forget, Dell has been operating with orders from the top to win now.

This is what makes Niko attractive. Good player but he can be a foundation in a trade that lands you a great player. If the Pelicans really want George in a sign and trade, I don't see any other team offering a better package where George will agree to. Keeping going the core in tact makes all the difference in the world for a guy like George at this point in his career. Whether we do this is the question. But if we decide to play ball, we have as good of a shot as anyone.

Put all current NBA players in a draft pool, I can’t count 5 that I would pay $35M per season to.

Lol Rondo isn’t coming here if Boogie isn’t here.

That was the reason why rondo came.

The performance of the top 15-20ish max level players usually far exceeds their salary. Would you change your mind if you only had to pay $35 million for one year? I'd give CP3 $35 million to play next year without a 2nd thought. Make it 4/$160ish and I start having lots of 2nd thoughts.

This is a really good point in all of this.

And its straight facts. Dell probably doesnt even consider Rondo without Boogie. Boogie wanted Rondo, and Rondo believed in the AD/Boogie pairing.

ohhhh...

i will grant you that i didnt consider that, but it is in no way "straight facts" that dell doesnt consider rondo w/o boogie. rondo was a man without a home, and moving holiday off the point was their number one priority

rondo was cheap, available and signable

Yes if it was only 1 year and not 5, I would pick more players. Unfortunately it’s 5 years.

The Boogie Question has nothing to do with any of this article’s points.

Does any option other than keeping him give us a shot at keeping AD here long term?

Boogie will be back, and we’ll be fine.

The more I read about Achilles injuries the more this injury worries me.

Right. The option is to have him or not have him and make AD angry. It is not like it is Boogie vs the cap space to sign PG. How anyone would not want Boogie even at 85% playing over Solo/Mek/Cheick and allowing AD/Niko to keep fresh is crazy to me.

Not to mention, Boogie should be more coachable than ever. He was already buying in those last games and when he is back, the coaches/team get to be more vocal with him if he's loafing/complaining too much. There will be no more concern about benching him when necessary since he's under contract and the rest of the team having matured so much in his absence. Figuring out the ideal rotations will be work, but unless the injury seriously degrades his talents, he makes us a much better team.

Love Bill Simmons despite his horrendous political views.

1) Simmons had little to nothing to do with the writing of that article. His disdain for the Pelicans/Professional Basketball in New Orleans is well-documented.

2) What are the horrendous political views you speak of? Not being outraged at NFL players kneeling during the national anthem? Grow up, dude.

Anyhow, it's a no brainer that we retain Boogie unless we're assured that Paul George will risk the mean streets of Metairie and come here (would be a better fit).

I actually don't have any issues with this statement.

There’s no question on whether we will try to re sign him, the entire team has basically been begging for him to be at our games. That should tell u all we need to know about our intentions

Here's Jen Hale interviewing Boogie after game 4. He says he's recovering at a "rapid pace". LINK

We don't need boogie to beat the portlands and okcs of the world. We absolutely need him to beat the houstons and gsws though. It's a no brainer to anyone who wants to go beyond the second round.

Problem is we have a better chance of beating the PORs with out him, imo.

Does Gentry have the guts to play him 15 mins a game against POR in the playoffs? no way. Boogie would implode the team.
