When he was walking to the lockerroom as the 1st half ended you could see his gut pretty clearly.
And his lazy play tells me he's not in shape.
I know it's just preseason, but not once did he sprint in the game, or at least run hard. I just don't understand this. He's unstoppable with a head of steam from half court, but that never happens b/c he's always lolly gagging behind the play. Not once do you see him get his arse down in a good defensive stance. He has such great hands to pick pockets as people try to get by him (as he stands completely still), but that's really lazy terrible defense that he gets away with. he's always standing straight up on defense at all times, just inviting his guy to move off ball behind him and get open.

And i say all of that and it was clear he was the best offensive player on the court by a very wide margin, and was mostly unstoppable.

I'm not watching and that is disappointing to hear. I had some hope for him

the fact that Karlo was relegated to only playing with the scrubs isn't a great sign that he'll get any quality playing time this year.

I'd say Missi looked a lot better in this game than he did in the summer league, obviously the same for Hawkins.

Their end of the bench is definitely better than our end of the bench.
When we are fully healthy (haha I know) aka not missing Trey/BI, our bench is pretty deep/good imo. Maybe not at Center, but pretty good everywhere else.

Hawkins should be a positive role player going forward. I’m not sure what his minutes look like when BI/Trey are playing, but he looked like he belonged in this game.

I’m not sure why there was so much JRE today. Maybe the just want to play small, and he is the best defensive fit as a tweener. I’m hoping that we can upgrade that spot if there is a trade.

Theis looked solid, can’t complain much there. If there is a trade to upgrade the C/F position, then I feel like he can make positive contribution.

Missi, will still be a work in progress…although I’m not sure Karlo is a better option. Even though it was a very limited sample size.

I know it’s preseason. I know….

But Zion had 0 FT’s. Our starters had 2. Our top ten had 13 total. Magic top ten had 31! I’m going to say it, if we don’t shine a light on this crap early and often, fines be damned, it will cost us many games this season.

Zion can not take 11 shots at the rim without a single foul called in a game they were calling in that way.

to be fair, the refs were horrible. Willie almost got T'd up late in the game after a shite call on Karlo. That shoudl tell you all you need to know that Willie almost got T'd up in a preseason game argueing with the refs.

They were calling fouls on us when we literally weren't touching guys. It was really bad. Herb had 2 on him where he chose to not attempt to challenge the shot taker, and didn't even touch him.
And of course Zion is barrelling into the paint with no calls.

I'm just happy it didn't look like the past couple of seasons where Orlando was causing problems for us. We looked like we were on cruise control with our starters today. That's very encouraging to see.

I don’t thing we see any kind of trade until TM3 is back on the court and in good game shape, but they certainly need help in the front court. As good as Theis looked out there, we can’t afford to trot out Missi, JRE, and Karlo in meaningful games.

One of BI/CJ has to be on the move to bring back a legit starting Center. You hope that everything you have heard in Practice about BI is true, and he is trying to be the player you need him to be. But you can’t to afford to let the season play out and go into next season with Karlo and Missi as your only Big men under contract.

Hopefully, Hawkins development along with TM3 being available makes that decision easier.

Take away all the other stuff about Zion being in shape (which of course is a legit concern), but Zion getting a legit whistle on offense is absolutely huge for this team. And he so rarely gets it. It’s a huge problem.
